Steve Spurrier recognizes an Evil Richt when he hears one.

The OBC isn’t on board with Mark Richt’s high praise for Jadeveon Clowney.  In fact, it sounds like he’s downright displeased with it.

“That was a little strong right there,” Spurrier said. “Obviously, Jadeveon is probably the best defensive lineman in college football. I think everyone agrees with that. But when you start putting linemen in there with quarterbacks, receivers and running backs, I don’t know what he’s trying to say. If he’s trying to fatten up Jadeveon’s thinking, I hope it doesn’t work.

“Jadeveon has had a lot of praise, a lot of attention the entire offseason. I think he’s handled it pretty well. He tries to stay out of the limelight. He doesn’t go to the clubs. He’s not out in public much, except when he has to go to class and so forth. I think he’s handled it well.”

I tell you what, between this and the schedule quip, I’d have to say Evil Richt is besting the Evil Genius in this year’s mental game battle so far.

You tell ’em, OBC. How dare Richt put Clowney in that pantheon of real athletes… like Connor Shaw!

All I can say is that if Spurdog has to spend any time at all dealing with quotes about his team, his schedule, and/or his players that he has to correct, backpedal on, or otherwise deal with, we’ve won, and it’s about damn time we won.

    The thinking of Jadaveon® Football™ is so P.H.A.T. he’s a GPOOE™ 2.0.

I love this blog — best UGA football blog on the web — and its analysis, but I’m just not buying the idea that this storm was intentionally created by Richt. Much less that it will have any impact on the game…

As one of the best UGA beat writers (Gentry Estes) put it: “It was basically a throw-away line. Richt was asked who was harder to gameplan for: Manziel or Clowney? He answered Manziel, but then threw in there to soften that statement that he thought Clowney “might” be the best player in all of football.” An off-the-cuff remark and total non-story. Sorry.

Hate to rain on the Evil Richt parade, but having a well-prepared team with a solid gameplan for South Carolina is the task at hand. Media games can not and should not be on our minds after losing to the Gamecocks two years in a row, the last one in full blowout fashion.

    Yes, Clowney’s avoided the limelight.

Except when he’s calling out QB’s or tweeting about his buddy Jay-Z.

Who else remembers SS saying that DJ Shockley was a “Heisman Trophy candidate” just before the season a few years ago? The Mayor is correct…Spurrier is paranoid that everyone else is as shady as himself.
