Anybody sense there’s a pattern emerging?
Florida running back and third-team preseason SEC pick Matt Jones is out indefinitely with a viral infection. Coach Will Muschamp says Jones will be re-evaluated next week.
“He came down with this the last four or five days. Right now we’re filling him full of antibiotics, and how his body responds will tell me how quickly he can come back. I probably won’t know definitively until end of next week on Matt. Just one of those things that happens. He’s got a lot of (gastrointestinal) issues right now and dealing with those things. He should be fine. Again, I don’t know when he’ll be able to return.”
Teammates say Jones has lost considerable weight. He was expected to be Florida’s primary back this year after rushing for 275 yards and three touchdowns as a backup to Mike Gillislee last season. Redshirt junior Mack Brown will take the No. 1 spot in Jones’ absence.
There are also a couple of offensive linemen who will be MIA for the first part of fall practice. The good thing is that’s not as many who missed the Gators’ spring game.
Florida’s best friend right now looks to be its September schedule. If the Gators had to face Georgia’s slate, with the walking wounded, you’d have to figure they’d be out of the national race before all was said and done. As it is, they should get a chance to regroup. Unless somebody else falls by the wayside.
I knew one of UF’s seasons would eventually be ruined by their rampant cooties.

Don’t sleep on that Miami game: in the relentless heat of Miami at noon. If players have missed a significant amount of conditioning in fall practice, that might be a game where they get gassed and find themselves in trouble against what should be an over-matched team. Miami is returning 18 starters, including 10 on offense, and would love to get this upset.

Miami is going to beat somebody this season that the Canes are not supposed to beat. I really like Miami’s chances against FU this year.

Tis a rivalry game that Florida stopped playing. Miami would love to beat the Gators. I’m sure it’s circled on the schedule.

This is a rivalry game that UF stopped playing years ago. I’m sure Miami has it circled on their schedule.

Well, if they’re giving Jones antibiotics for a viral infection, then he’ll probably be out a long time. (Antibiotics: bacterial infections)

…..and if he is already having gastrointestinal problems the antibiotics will only make them worse.

If this is an example of FU medical care, don’t have any surgery at Shands.

Went to Shands for care of third-degree motorcycle burns years ago. They were so incompetent, I resorted to the local free clinic.

Plus antivirals have hellaceous side effects. You can bet if they are pumping him full of antibiotics for an intestinal problem, it could kill his normal intestinal flora and lead to other problems.

This is the sort of thing that use to derail us (that is continuity and chemistry early). Nice to see it eating them for once.

Well they do have a former Dawg as a HC. I think he’s brought some of that Karma with him.
I’d kind of like to see Will’s pic hanging in the WLOCP hall of fame. Not for his playing exploits but due to the odd distinction of having been 0-12 in the game as a player and coach.

Wonder where Fred Taylor’s kid sits on the depth chart? His resume is as good or better than anyone coming out of high school, and may well be the SEC’s next superstar freshman runner.

The Miami game is going to be interesting. Very interesting. Sleepy noon start, a jacked up Miami team looking to make a statement and a Florida team coming in with questions all over the offensive side (and defense, technically, but I trust Boom to have a defense nasty from the jump).

It’s very much a strength vs strength / weakness against weakness game (Miami’s D last year was about as bad as the Gators’ offense).

I’ve never understood why anyone would think it’s Florida’s year to start with. They were the luckiest 11-1 SEC team in years. If their turnover margin dips back to a normal level this year (which we should expect to happen), I doubt they’ll win more than 8 games.

No, but I think Georgia will still have the better team coming into that game.

Georgia fans complaining about their schedule compared to Florida? Really?

Who’s complaining? They just start with an easier slate of games in September than Georgia does. When it’s all said and done, Florida plays a plenty tough schedule.

Let’s go easy on Shands; my nephew was born with a hole in his heart, and they saved his life. Of course, they also put a toy gator in his NICU crib, so I still might burn the place to the ground.
