Just another way to squeeze a few bucks from our love of the game:
Two of Florida’s long-time college football rivals are coming together in a new contest: To sell lottery tickets.
The Florida Lottery is paying hundreds of thousands of dollars so it can use the logos of the University of Florida and Florida State University on a new $2 scratch-off lottery game aimed squarely at football fans.
Isn’t that special? In the words of the Lottery secretary, “We felt it was a great opportunity for us to showcase the rivalry and do it in entertaining manner.”
Call it a new tradition, if you’d like. The NCAA can’t figure out what to call it.
The NCAA has maintained a strong stance against gambling, but it referred questions to the two schools. The NCAA has rules that prohibit athletes as well as athletics department employees from wagering on sports in which the NCAA conducts championships. Those include office pools for the NCAA basketball tournament.
Well, technically they’re not betting on sports. Maybe the NCAA is taking notes on how to market a March Madness lottery ticket to make up for the revenue lost from dropping the EA Sports deal.
Get The Picture 
Does make a little more sense considering the University benefits from Florida’s Bright Scholars program (a knock-off HOPE). From UF/FSU’s academic (and not athletic ass’n) standpoint, anything that benefits the lottery funded scholarships is a huge win, and if it benefits the AA too then its a no-brainer for them.

You’re wrong, Mac. Lotteries hurt the poor. Voluntarily, yes. But they hurt the poor just the same. Ignorant people spend money for lottery tickets that should be spent on food and clothing for their children. Why? Because they see it as their only way out of their dreary existence. Winning the lottery is just a mirage. Sure one person in 10,000,000 wins the jackpot and a few more win minor pots but that is just the honey that attracts the suckers. What offends me the most is that state run lotteries are just the old numbers racket run by the mob which was and still is illegal. But when government does it then that’s just fine. It is either wrong or it’s not. The hypocrisy is palpable.

What offends me is the pompous assholes who think they know what others should do with their money. Perhaps you should move to NYC and salute with a “Heil Bloomberg”! when he and his storm troopers come riding by to confiscate salt shakers, large drink cups, fatty foods, etc. from the idiot people. Do you really think people who buy lottery tickets rather than feed their children would “see the light” and go buy organic foodstuff rather than waste their money on something else? Guess it is a good thing they have people like you to raise their children for them because “it takes a village” doesn’t it?
Those who are willing to sacrifice individual choice/responsibility and allow Big Government such control of their lives are more than “offensive”, they are dangerous to the freedoms of others who cherish those rights. You may be willing to give your freedoms away, others have chosen to fight, and die, for theirs. Obviously your comment was stated for a simple one dollar purchase option, but the mindset and attitude is rampant and directly linked to government intrusion into individual and states rights in this country. So no, I am not wrong on this…..not even close.

Better yet, check out the Monument at HARVARD and read what it states. I believe that is were the LAWS for this Country were made. Now, I know you are not an Ivy Leaguer.

The “poor little people” have a choice to play or not, and I doubt the money they waste on the lottery would be spent more fruitfully on something else. Stop pretending like you know what’s best for others to do with their money. If they want to waste it, let them. Should we ban cable TV because some people might rather watch a GA game than save for their kid’s college? Sheesh.

I see what you did there. You do realize that the extreme ends of the left and right are within handshaking distance of one another as the circle comes together? Does it really matter which hand deals liberty its death? Dictators are not your friends, and should not be in positions of leadership whether they come from left field or right field. I don’t care whether Herr Bloomberg is a leftist commie, or a rightist fascist, I fear his approach to governing. No, I don’t travel to NYC anymore, and haven’t for many years now.
