I’m sure he meant well.

In case you hadn’t noticed, Keith Olbermann is a preening douchebag.

Sure enough Gramatica’s name was brought up by ESPN’s Keith Olbermann on Monday night when he decided to make Mitchell one of the night’s “worse” persons in the sports world for not learning from the mistakes of others.

Seriously, Malcolm Mitchell accidentally hurting himself while celebrating a team highlight in a big game makes him an asshole?

Olbermann earned a spot for himself on his own list.

If this isn’t the final nail in the coffin of the media, I’m not sure what they have to do to lose their final shred of credibility. Sure it sucks, but do we really want a GAME where players can’t even celebrate, because we’re worried about them injuring themselves? **it happens!!! This sort of crap, along with the unceasing hype and general idiocy, are why I can’t watch any of these talking head shows.
And Olberman is one to talk – I know he’s never done or said anything stupid in the heat of the moment before…

On SNL, Ben Affleck did an excellent impersonation of Keith’s “Worst Person in the Universe” or whatever he calls it.

Cut Keith some slack, yall. Unlike malcolm Mitchell, Keith learned lessons. During the Bush presidency he shouted that the president was a facist but when there was a different president in 2009 he called out for a “more civil discourse”

    What a standup guy!

    • Dog in Fla

Bush was a much better fascist than the different one. But that’s only because w. had more experienced teammates in Dick and Halliburton

Politics and recent douchiness aside, the old nightly Sports Center with he and Dan Patrick was great sports entertainment (pre-ultra-saturation).

If you think being a “libtard” has anything to do with Olberman being an asshole you are mistaken. The world is full of wonderful people who are liberals, but has only one flaming pile of shit that is Keith Olberman.

      • Brandon

Craig James is frequently used to smear the right in the blogosphere, John is just putting the shoe on the other foot. I agree that ideology has zero to do with whether a person is an asshole or not, but neither side is innocent here.

        • Dog in Fla

Until Craig James decided to run for Senate, the blogosphere had smeared no right wing extremists. Craig was personally responsible for opening the floodgates to false equivalency arguments

        • Billy Mumphrey

I honestly had no idea what direction James leaned, nor do I care. I also don’t think James’ affiliation has ever been a point of mockery on this blog. That John’s comment was some type of tit for tat is a bit of a stretch.

      Cogent comment, Johnny.
      You’re needed over at AJC.com….

Keith Olbermann a jerk? Meh. Dog bites man.

  7. JG Shellnutt

If Olberman shows up in Habersham tonight, I’ll whip his tail.

I never in my wildest dreams thought what happened reflected poorly on Malcolm but the first word I thought when I heard was “Gramatica.”

I thought it was bad when the WWL gave Finebaum a show, but I knew they had lost all sense of their viewers’ preferences when they hired the “preening douchebag.” (Perfect description by the way) You know it’s bad when bringing back Craig James sounds like a potential improvement, or at least a draw.

Btw: if olbermamn said that a fifth year qb not finding the play clock TWICE in the second half made him the worst person in the world! Well I wouldn’t complain. I’m still more pissed at that than anything that happened. Because it happened TWICE with a 5th yr qb, on the road, in a big game in the second half. Unforgivable! You can’t win big games and make stupid little mistakes like that. I’m not one to get down on our players or coaches, but I’m having a hard time with that one.

Look, I don’t like Keith Olbermann either but is anybody on this blog seriously contending that what Mitchell did was smart? It was stupid with a capital S and seriously impacts the 2013 UGA football team in a negative way. He let down his teammates, coaches and fans. Most of all he let down himself. A bonehead thing to do!

  12. BulldogBen

Not really defending Olbermann but yeah, I thought Ted Ginn first, Gramatica 2nd. Celebration injuries are fair game. It stings like a mother because it’s MM though. It’s completely freakish but also preventable and yes I know that’s an oxymoron.

  13. Gravidy

I agree with your assessment, but he was a preening DB well before this.

    Who is Kieth Olberman?

    • Dog in Fla

A primo sports announcer and political commentator who is so great he gets fired from every job he has. That happens because management hates uppity labor and because Keef’s head has a weather system bigger than the one orbiting around Dan Mullen’s head causing daily afternoon thunderstorms raising the humidity in the studio to unacceptable levels

    • Hogbody Spradlin

We don’t know who he is Josh. You’d better ask his viewer.

  15. Brandon

Douchebag sports commentators come from both sides of the aisle.

Given Olberman’s track record of flame-outs, burnt bridges, and scorched earth (studios), it is a testament to the media’s belief in authoritarianism that ABC/ESPN gave him this gig. That his show is based in ABC News HQ is such a plus for all the young journalist within ABC looking for a pompous ass blow hard mentor. Unfortunately, this reboot of countdown will reach a broader audience than his last effort.

Waiting on Mike Lupica to get the time slot after him.
