Wakey, wakey, football fans.
- Texas, Willie Lyles is standing by, ready to offer his services in a time of need.
- Jadeveon Clowney is hurting. If Georgia finishes out the season ahead of South Carolina, brace yourselves an updated version of the “Tebow was injured in the 2007 Cocktail Party” excuse from ‘Cock fans.
- Epic onside kick fail in the Duke-Tech game.
- After Harvey Updyke’s asshole unpuckers yesterday, he sends a little bravado Johnny Manziel’s way.
- Tommie Frazier is a bit miffed with Bo Pelini’s defense.
- Against Oregon, Tennessee gave up the second-most yards in a single game in program history. Safety Brian Randolph’s conclusion? “We didn’t play up to our standard today.” I suppose that’s true in a way.
- Johnny Football vs. Johnny Rotten.
- Johnny Football vs. Nick Saban.
- Alabama’s coaches and players have no hard feelings about one of the stupidest penalties in college football. I wonder if they’d feel the same way had they lost.
The targeting call on Hix was ridiculous and I’d be pissed that I was charged 15 yds and a first down for that crap, even if the ejection was overturned. There was a similar call in the Texas game. Baal, receiver and defender all arrived at the same time. Defender went low, receiver ducked his head, boom! Defender is called for targeting. The ejection was overturned but still, just a stupid rule all around. If it’s reviewed and overturned, it should all be overturned.

Uh, “Dix” not “Hix”.

I figured you were just contracting the name.

Baal usually wins that matchup, btw. Dix is lucky he was not consumed by fire.

If you watch the replay carefully, the head of the A&M receiver NEVER touches anything. Dix never even contacts his head.
Stupid call, stupid, stupid penalty.

What a stupid rule. I understand the need to protect players and the desire to have the officials err on the side of caution. You can make all of that possible by allowing the entire penalty to be overturned instead of just the ejection. Only the NCAA could craft something so asinign.

I believe Bama gave up a biblical amount of yardage too. Something like 630.
In a way, I’m feeling a little better about our defense.

I haven’t done any numbers crunching to support this, but I wonder if it’s about time to re-calibrate what we consider to be good defense. The balance between offense and defense tends to be a pendulum and it seems to me things have swung towards the offensive side of the ball in recent years. I think this may have to do with the whole up tempo movement and the fact that the officials are not doing anything to slow down the offenses to let the defenses get set.
I am not trying to say that UGA has played great defense, and I absolutely think there is a lot of room for improvement. This is more aimed at those who would compare Grantham to Willie on the basis of games that their respective defenses gave up >30pts. I’d be interested to see how often that happens across the board in the SEC from season to season as a means of providing some context to that comparison. My feeling is that you would see a general uptick in the number of points scored in general.

Joe, to your point, we now know what “scoring inflation” translates into today’s results for Willie M. and Jancek. Yesterday’s 30 points is today’s 59 points….

Duke vs Tech….hummm…didn’t know they still played football.

This may be the year that the national champion has just enough OFFENSIVE power to actually be their DEFENSE.

Gee I’m happy UGAs best player wasn’t hobbled by a similar injury which kept hm out of practice the week before week 2 and caused him to miss significant time in the first game of the season.
Clowney is still a beast and just isn’t going to have the same numbers this year. Get over it, cocks.

I’m pinning a tiny bit of hope on Ole Miss getting an upset in 2 weeks. It’s not much, but it worked in 2008.

It wasn’t only the UF fanbase that drove that meme into the ground, it was Tebow and Corch. And the media LET them and then joined in!
At the 2008 cocktail party, they talked about it incessantly. Funny that no one outside our fanbase ever talked about DJ being out of the game in 2005. Tebow was hurt. DJ was injured.

Of course Saban complimented the refs. His player doesn’t get ejected, and no pass interference was called on the play that probably won the game for them (tipped ball for pick 6…defender face palms receiver with his right hand and gets lucky the ball hits his left hand while never looking back for the ball. Bama always gets those breaks.)

I thought the ball hit a helmet.

I saw that too. Hit Dix(?) in the back of the head? How is that not targeting?

Ha-Ha’s penalty was ridiculous but the really stupid call was “Continued Participation Without a Helmet” that was called in the 4th quarter when a D-lineman got his helmet pulled off by an O-lineman. 15 yards and a first down when the O had been stopped on 3rd down!

It’s not really an item on the buffet, but whither Trey Matthews? I was just checking this old thread:
Did he get hurt and I just missed it?
