Meteor coach spat

I mean, does anybody really want to get in the middle of a Paul Johnson-David Cutcliffe pissing match?

Cutcliffe is right, cut blocking should be eliminated from the college game. It is used by teams whose OLs aren’t big or strong enough to take on defenders by blocking (or holding) their upper bodies. It also targets the knees. If we are so concerned with players targeting above the shoulders, we shouldn’t allow targeting beneath the thighs, either. And you can’t tell me Tech doesn’t enjoy trying to knock UGA players out of the game by employing the technique.

I’m not defending Johnson or the technique here, but your assertion that cut blocking is only used by teams with inferior offensive lines isn’t true. Tech does it more than others, but the great majority of teams (if not all) use it – including our Dawgs.

It’s just as cowardly when we do it. And when we do, it is usually against DLs and DEs we have a hard time containing (i.e. Jadeveon Clowney).

Well, as long as you are consistent, that’s fine with me. Although I’d pay good money to see you call Quayvon Hicks or Kenarious Gates a coward. 🙂

The only different I see between cut blocking on the perimeter and tackling below the waist is that you don’t use your arms. I mean, what’s the other difference?”

Ummm, one guy is carrying the ball and looking to get tackled while the other is ummm, not … Please don’t punch me in the mouth.

I would be ok with getting rid of all blocking below the waist at the LOS. I think that people are more likely to get hurt when they get cut downfield, but plenty of linemen get hurt with their legs caught up. And plus Tech gets away with a LOT of chop blocking. That low-high combo is even more dangerous.

I do. It’s not exactly Lane Kiffen feud dialogue but it’s still pretty good for the ACC because like Mars and Venus or the Odd Couple, it shows previously unreported signs of life on Paul or David, or both

        Clever one, Bluto.

I see nothing wrong with keeping up with enemy news on a fan blog.

Viewed in a vacuum, the notion of whether a sports blogger should spend any time writing about rivals is odd enough. But the fact that this particular objection is coming from a Tech fan is both pathetic and hilarious. Is there another fan base in all of college football which is more obsessed with a rival team? With my own ears (multiple times on different occasions) I’ve heard Tech fans say they’d rather go 1-11 with a victory over Georgia than to go 11-1 with a loss to Georgia. I simply cannot fathom that attitude. Right or wrong, it certainly doesn’t sound like much fun.

Us with Florida? But I digress. As long as we can suppress compulsion(s), is that not within normal limits?

lol. oh good. this gives me a chance to use clever all lower case letters.

btw. it’s true. with the win last week against duke, tech’s record against duke in the last 12 games (11-1) is the same as the dwags record against tech in the last 12 games. sat analogy coming’ at you morons! tech football:duke football as georgia football:tech football. mindblown.

I”ve always though Cutcliff was a pretty good coach. Tough to win at Duke, though Spurrier did win the ACC there.
I wonder what Fishfry would do if the NCAA did ban cut blocking. Would he change his offensive scheme or continue to insist it’s ingenius? I hope he never changes it.
