Condoleezza Rice is rumored to be named to the CFP selection committee. (I wonder if Ari Fleischer put in a good word for her.) For what it’s worth, she’s a better choice than letting active coaches have a say so over which teams get in.

Hold on NRBQ! Condoleezza Rice played 4 seasons of college ball and numerous years in the NFL. She was one of the greatest receivers in the history of football. She adds a lot of that “gravitas” thingy that the Senator was talking about because of all those Super Bowl rings she has…….What’s that?…..That was JERRY Rice, not Condoleezza Rice?……Never mind……..

So, let me get this straight. Presumably, one would think that criteria for being a member of the selection committee would involve honesty, objectivity and at least a working knowledge of the game of football. And their first possible selection is a woman who was part of the greatest lie perpetrated on the American people in the last 30 years, who has long been involved in politics and has deep ties to one of the institutions that would be in contention for this playoff and has a knowledge of football that is composed almost entirely of sports cliches.
Fuck this, let’s just go back to the bowls. I’ve long been sympathetic to the playoff argument, but if this is the kind of person who goes on the selection committee, then it’s just a joke.

Ok, I aint gonna get into the politics of “the greatest lie perpetrated on the American people in the last 30 years” except say that if you think Iraq was the biggest lie then you probably don’t know all the lies you’ve been told. And if your refering to ties to Alabama, I’d say her PAC12 ties are considerably greater. And, hell, she probably knows more, and would be fairer than Emmert, Slive, or the like. I’d rather have her than some of these blowhard reporters and washed up coaches.

The only reason you oppose her selection is based upon race. You know it, I know it, we all know it. If it was a white women from an Ivy League school who spent her lifetime in politics with nothing more than meeting the occasional national champs at the WH you wouldn’t have problem with her being on the selection committee.

Yes, that’s absolutely right guys. The only possible reason that I would oppose having Condi Rice on a college football selection committee is race. Or being a woman. Nothing at all to do with the reasons I listed above. And of course if we can’t have Condi, then really, who’s left in this country other than Paul Finebaum?
Amazing. I would love having a woman (regardless of race) on the committee, for any number of reasons but especially because it’s always valuable to have different points of view. But there are plenty of women out there who are perfectly qualified, perfectly knowledgeable about football and don’t have a reputation for being a partisan liar. I’m neither a Dem nor a Republican, but I don’t have to be either to see what she is.

How does taking the available information she had at the time and making a decision that wasn’t completely correct = lies? We found WMD in Iraq, I promise you we did. We didn’t find stockpiles, but hey at least Syria(Iraq’s neighbor, and Saddam’s buddy) seems to have a nice stockpile now.

(1) If we’d found WMD in Iraq, Fox ‘News’ would have talked about it every day since then. I promise you we didn’t.
(2) Chemical weapons degrade; Sarin, specifically, has a shelf life of 5 years. Saddam would have been an impressive character indeed if he’d somehow been able to smuggle chemical weapons to Syria 2 years after he died, and 4 years after the US military were in near-complete control of his country.
Leaving that aside, Condi is a joke. That said, just about everyone on the committee will no doubt be a joke.

The most concerning person announced to me is Pat Hayden. This has nothing to do with him as a person, but seems to indicate the committee really didn’t care about whether fans’ concerns should be addressed. You can argue about the amount of knowledge some have, or have much time they spend on CFB every day/week but you should never have to wonder if they can be impartial or not. Hayden happens to be a fine person, but he is never going to be trusted by those outside the state of California to be unbiased about CFB, rightly or wrongly? Why set yourself up for that type of criticism? Lord knows they will get enough anyway.
