Georgia-Tennessee game day thread

My biggest worry today isn’t the possibility of a Georgia hangover after last week’s leave-everything-on-the-field classic.  No, I don’t expect the Dawgs to play at the same emotional level today, but when you read a fan piece like this one, about how UT can pull off the upset, you realize it’s going to take a lot more than Georgia not bringing its A game for that to happen.

What does make me a little nervous is the possibility that Butch Jones treats today like a bowl game.  It’s a perfect opportunity to take a “what the heck” approach – it’s in the middle of his first year and the last three games have brought the fan base back to reality.  After the season, nobody in Knoxville is really going to care if a loss to Georgia is close or not; if taking a bunch of chances like fake punts, onside kicks and fourth down attempts gives UT a chance to win, why not?  Plus, who knows how Georgia’s kids handle a crazy game?

As I indicated earlier, turnovers are something to keep an eye on, both because that’s the obvious way for Tennessee to stay in the game (like last year) and because the Vols have been all over the place in that regard this season.  If that’s not a factor, then I think Georgia’s run defense and passing game will be the difference.  Well, and this:

The Vols will be sporting a new look for the Georgia game, donning the Smokey gray uniforms for the first time. It will be a motivator, a boost to recruiting, and Butch said “I think it’s something our fan base has been waiting for.”

Player James Stone, who spoke briefly at the press conference, said it would be “extra juice” to motivate the guys.

James, speaking from experience, that probably isn’t going to end well.

More like fake juice in addition to weak sauce. UT could march out there dressed as a squadron of orcs or the Red Army, when the “smoke” clears they will be staring up at a 20 pt. defeat.

Murray will look like an EA quarterback today IF the OTs look like they did vs. LSU. The game should be fun.

he’s probably given the uniform designers for GTU a couple of ideas! Fish Fry could shuck his usual game day gear and dress like Gimli. If I had the skills of LSU Freek, I could make that happen.

I’m worried sick…because that’s what I do. Is it rational? I sure hope not. But as we all know, hope is a dangerous thing. Their offensive line is huge, just huge, their long snappah is like a freaking Jugs machine…worry, worry, worry.

Nick Saban is one cold bastard.

A.J. is 15/16 with 4 TDs in the second. They’ve only run it 12 times.

This, and I never expressed it leading up to this tilt, is what had me concerned going into this game. Bloody missed read and season-ending injury to KM. I feel really bad for that Dawg, obviously. Does Keith get an extra season this far into ’13? Gotta hope so for the dude.

These announcers are idiots. They don’t know if it is a sprain or what and now they are already talking about the season.

I dunno. Marshall wasn’t crying like a kid facing a sprain. Looked to me like the trainers gave him some tragic news, although I sure hope I’m wrong.

But on another note, this is a fine moment for the defense to coalesce and bring some fury to bear on the Smokey Vols.

Just an idle thought, but what does a Hall/Hicks backfield look like? Any chance of that?

Nice first half. Run defense is solid and Damian Swann is still playing really poorly. Offense looks a little disjointed, but I’m not complaining about 17-3.

    Huge bummer about Keith.

Tennessee clearly has a defense that struggles against spread-type, move the ball outside the tackles offenses, so our strategy this game has been to pound the ball up the middle as much as we can. This is why Bobo makes you want to drink bleach when you watch him call plays sometimes.

So much for the breather. We should have known better.

Devestating injuries, more bend & break defense, funky play-calling, a couple of horrible calls, and a bolt of blinding luck in overtime.

Bottom line, though: Lulu and Bubba haz a sad.

What the hell happened to our vertical passing game? Please don’t mention the awful injuries to our receivers for the lack of a downfield passing game, we didn’t throw deep to them before they got hurt. I just don’t understand why we spent most of the day throwing short routes and hoping for more. We didn’t win the games we won by doing this short shit! Hit the intermediate passes 15-20 yards downfield like we have done so far this season until today!

They sat both safeties very deep all game. The plan was to keep everything in front and make us earn it. And without Marshall/Gurley, who can blame them. We had a few nice runs, but not enough to make them come up in the box so we could go deep. As much as I hate to say it, excellent game plan by Jancek that was made even better when we became somewhat 1 dimensional

No doubt we had WRs running open downfield all day. But its not in fashion to critique CMB or CMR. CTG is our whipping boy now. We have sec’s all time passer, but hand off to 2 true freshmen RBs til every Dawg fan is ready to throw up. Should have won by 28 over the most pathetic ut team ever. But hey, its a win. Hope we keep our #6 ranking, although it wouldn’t surprise me if we fall – a lot.

A miracle. In 1980, Clemson game is lost except for a couple of Scott Woerner miracles. Fla is lost except for the Run Lindsay miracle. Sometimes special seasons require miracles.

Will Bradley now recognize Richt’s genius for letting UT score at the end? If we try to make that goal line stand we lose the game. CBS showed Richt in Meditation/Prayer right before their TD, so he either called that strategy (genius) or it was divine intervention (Munson with a reverse hunker-down). That was possibly the real miracle play.

Agree 100%. Tennessee should have run the clock and beat us with a late field goal. Give Murray two minutes and he will beat you.

Yep, I thought for sure they would run the clock down and kick the FG. Obviously glad they scored and left Murray and the offense just enough time.
