Aaron Murray sure likes playing between the hedges.
In games at Sanford Stadium, Murray is 20-2, with the only losses coming to South Carolina (2011) and Arkansas (2010). In those 22 home games, he’s thrown 63 touchdown passes to just 11 interceptions, five of which came during his sophomore season. Here’s Murray’s year-by-year home splits:
2013 … 3-0 record, 67.8 completion percentage, 11 touchdowns, 2 INTs, 203.0 rating, 338.3 passing yards per game
2012 … 7-0, 71.4 percent, 19 TDs, 2 INTs, 209.6 rating, 295.0 yards per game
2011 … 5-1, 65.3 percent, 19 TDs, 5 INTs, 168.8 rating, 203.3 yards per game
2010 … 5-1, 66.2 percent, 14 TDs, 2 INTs, 177.9 rating, 244.2 yards per game
Gotta like his odds this Saturday, even with a banged-up receiving corps.

It helps both our lines too. O-line isn’t reacting to the snap like the d-line but can move on the cadence, our d-line gets that advantage vs. an opponent in Sanford where its been noisier of late. This in turn helps AM too.

Yup. Did you see the defensive stats we’ve put up this year? We are the worst in the conference at nearly everything. The defense is going to have to do something. We need to knock the QB down, intercept some passes, and cause a fumble or two. We’re due for turnovers. How about flipping the script and getting a special teams score for once? Simply put, if we don’t improve on special teams and defense, there is simply no way to overcome the injuries on the offensive side of the ball.

As Coach Russell used to say “if we score we may win, if they don’t score we will never lose” or something along those lines. Hell, I’d settled for giving up 14 less per game.

I’m not sure about Mizzou yet. They’re best win was vs. an Indiana team that lost to Navy at home. I think we’re seeing that Vandy isn’t that good. Don’t be surprised if our D looks way better than we think on Saturday.
We’ve got a 4 and 5 star kids who are being told all week by the media about how bad they suck, and they are better than that squad in black and gold this Saturday. They might just show it.

State Penn ain’t so good either. They had every right to lose against Syracuse. Then they went out and “squashed” EMU and Kent St. And lost to UCF.

You have to factor in the points allowed by special teams, which is a fairly big contributor to that average. The D has real problems, but our ST coaches (whoever they are) deserve some blame too.

The special teams are responsible for 21 points in five games. Subtract that 4.2 points per game, and Georgia’s defense is still giving up 28, which is horrendous.

Just doing the quick math at cfbstats.com (admittedly – this includes special teams scores as bifurcating that data would take way more time than I’m willing to put in) – the national scoring average is hovering right at 28.6 points per game. To me, its seems like 30 is the new 20 when we talk about offensive ppg in college football.
No excusing the defense by any means (have to force more 3rd down stops as well as the offense is playing), but they’re not entirely inconsistent with the national trend right now.

Aaron Murray. He’s truly got a chance to be remembered as the best quarterback to play for Georgia. I want him to get an SEC ring so badly just to validate that.

Defense: you are playing for more than pride now. You are playing to help the all time greatest QB UGA has ever known cement his legend. Strap it on and play like you have a pair!

The D does play like they have a pair. Effort and aggression is not the issue. It is lining up correctly and being in the correct position combined with missed assignments that are the biggest issues in my opinion. We have to correct the bad angles, loss of containment, and blown coverages. The good news is those are all correctable items it is just a question how long it takes to get corrected. In my opinion, we should be seeing better improvement in these areas by now.

Absolutely. At least 1 of 2 things must happen for Georgia to win this weekend: some luck comes our way (meaning turnovers, friendly bounces of punts and/or kick-offs) or the D plays up to the level of its talent rather than down to the level of its experience. If neither happens, hard to see how Georgia wins, and clearly Aaron Murray deserves better than that.

Regardless of BIG game wins and stats any questions about AM were gone with me his freshman year. He has never had a complete team around him and now his weapons are gone too. Unless you are of the Chuck Oliver ilk if he leaves without a championship I highly doubt that it will be his fault.

Need to abandon those short or backward passes and go for points. We screwed around with ut too long and it came back to bite us. Bury mizzou with points early and often, and make the D and ST’s less of a factor.

My apologies. I wasn’t going after their effort or aggressiveness. I was meaning more from the, if you aren’t getting it, bust your tail harder to make sure you do. I know these boys are working hard and don’t like messing up. I get that. I just believe if you know you are blowing it in a particular area (outside containment and letting plays get to the edge and beyond), maybe take a note from your Legendary QB and spend even more time going through film and asking as many questions about what you need to do to improve. Not saying these boys aren’t doing that, but it sure seems to be similar issues from game to game.

I have been preaching on this topic for years–to deaf ears. Why, pray tell, does UGA have only 6 home games most years when every other program in the SEC has at least 7 and some have 8? The year Auburn won the BCSNCG the Barners had 8 home games. FU sometimes has 9, if you count the WLOCP which is played 60 miles away from their campus. You don’t think those extra home games don’t make a difference? Look at those stats for Murray above. But the UGA administration always seem to make things as difficult as possible on the Dawgs rather than the other way around.

We’re 11-1 under CMR against Tech and 6-0 at their place. Hell, Bobby Dodd Stadium usually is filled with UGA fans for that game. But that’s another post for another day.

Not to beat a dead horse but our defense got off the field twice last Sat and the punt team tanked it again. 14pt swing on the blocked punt for 6 and the delay of game call that I see every week If we keep the kicking game blunders to zero we win by 14. Still painful to watch the botched FG at Clemson! Have to think we could have won that game if not for that miscue.

That mistake at Clemson was on Nathan Theus. And he almost did it again for the PAT to tie the game against Tennessee. I think his days as the FG snapper are numbered. And I think he’s already lost his job as the punt long snapper.
But that is a very good point.The defense did enough for this to be 34 (remember we missed a FG, too) to 17 in regulation. There would be less teeth-gnashing if that were the case, IMO.
