First thing I always do this week

… is check the weather.  Next Saturday in Jacksonville is looking mild and wet. There’s even a chance of a thunderstorm.  (That’s all the Dawgs and Gators have been missing this season, a game delayed by lightning.)  I have no clue which team gets a break with inclement weather.  The more relevant question is whether rain increases the chance for injuries.  Not that either team needs any more help in that department.

Weather’s always perfect at T-Rays this week.

Mild rainy weather usually bodes well for the Dawgs in this game IMO. 80 degrees and sunny is, well, Florida weather.

Seems like I have read, or some coach told me or something, that rainy games are easier on the troops…grip is less, thus twisting is less.

Having gotten my ass well-chewed for expressing my admiration for the performance of one of our SEC bros, I will just say its nice this game might mean something in the overall scheme, even if the scenario that makes it meaningful a hope-filled daydream.

I did not watch FSU much…how’s their kicking game?

Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

Tie breaker scenario as of 10:50 am Sunday:

If Mizzou loses only to A&M they make the SECCG on intra-divisional record. If they lose to an East team it’s still impossible to tell. Assuming, just for discussion, that we and SC win out (that’s a lot of assumption). Pardon if I whammied any superstitious folks.

I don’t see much hope for UGA in the tie breaker – too many ifs and buts. So, I resolved that UGA makes the Gator Bowl vs Northwestern or Minnesota, or some other slow, non deserving Big 10 team. Should make for an easy win. As far as the National Championship. Something is telling me that Bama somehow gets beat either by Auburn or in the SEC champ. game (BTW, I could care less that Bama goes to the Nat. Champ. I’m not really doing that “SEC SEC” cheer this year). I also think that FSU stumbles. That puts Oregon and OSU in where I hope the Ducks lay about 60 on the Urban Legend in his own mind.

That is unless SC forms a 3 way tie in which case it would be a strange deal?

One of the greatest games at J-ville was in a monsoon with the lights reflecting off ponding water all over the field of play. Dooley had taken tennis shoes (just in case). The game was a laugher with the Dawgs gloriously running up their highest score ever in the game. Methinks it was 1969, but I’m trying to let some of you look up stats for your own pleasure. When the year’s game summeries were played to a packed Stedman, we all stood and roared through that entire game’s big plays.

Let it rain! Hard!! SIC’EM DAWGS!

Totally off topic, but did anyone else notice that the crew that failed at their jobs so miserably last week for UGA-Vandy was “punished” by officiating the #1 team in the country’s game? With an assist from Penn as an alternate as the cherry on top!

On topic – slop is fun! At this point, why not?

Does anyone know if there were any targeting penalties called by SEC officiating crews this weekend? I’m thinking none were. Anyone? Bueller?

They filled their quota last weekend, no need to over do it. They will resume in Jax this next weekend.

69, I’m thinking the SEC is done with targeting this year. This is like the celebration fiasco in the 2009 LSU-UGA game. After the furor over the bogus call on AJ Green, the conference told the refs not to call it any more and there wasn’t another celebration penalty for the rest of that season. Like 2009, the bogus calls (particularly the one on Ramik Wilson) last week cost UGA that game. Media furor and bad press for the SEC. Now the SEC is through calling targeting until the rule gets clarified, meaning no more calls until next year.
