Some random national title ramblings

One good thing about Dawgless Saturdays in the fall is that I get a chance to watch a lot more of what other teams are doing.  One impression I got flipping channels is that Jimbo Fisher has done at FSU what all the Saban disciples endlessly blather about:  build a program in His image.  The ‘Noles are deep and well-coached.  Both their win and Alabama’s were the kind of effortless, soul-crushing beatdown of mediocre opponents you expect to see from top five teams.  Boring, even.  (I don’t blame ‘Bama fans for leaving early, by the way. How many handoffs in a blow out can you watch?)

Oregon, by comparison, is intriguing.  The Ducks run a different scheme, but basically they’re Texas A&M with a defense.  UCLA has a legit defense, too, and did a good job holding Oregon to 14 points in the first half.  But the dam broke in the second half as Oregon rolled to a 28-point win and 555 yards of offense, 200 yards more than UCLA’s defense had yielded on average going in.  Pretty damned impressive.

As long as two of those three teams go undefeated, I’m officially on the Ohio State win out bandwagon now.  I would love to watch Corch lobby all his buddies in the media if his undefeated team looked like it was coming up short in the BCS rankings. (He’s already started with the how great two-loss Wisconsin is talk.) And I’d expect the Big Ten coaches’ votes in the last Coaches Poll to be epic. Fun stuff.

Fans, even students, buy their tickets one way or another. They have the right to leave any time they want. Totally arrogant, yet typical, of Saban to be threatening to take their seats away if they leave early. I’d love to win like Bama, too, but if it comes to that dynamic in Athens, I’d just as soon forget it.

I don’t see tOSU jumping any of the three teams ahead of them, if they all remain unbeaten. The storyline that comes with any combination of the top three in the BCSCG is more compelling than trying to wedge the Buckeyes in there, IMO.

Refreshing to see the better teams come out and handle their business against clearly inferior opponents for a change.

My concern is that 2 of the top 3 lose before year end, allowing OH State to play for the title…so we can see them assume the position like ND did last year. Any combination of Bama, FSU and Oregon would make for an epic title game. It’s out of FSU’s hands if the other two keep winning. The combination of the computers and politics will put FSU behind Bama and Oregon.

MIzzou finally feels the impact of a schedule. Did Connor Shaw and Steve Spurrier bring to earth in quarter and some OT. There are no undefeated teams in SEC East. So good to see those schools in the state of Tennessee get their “arrogant, i’m-better-than-thou, where-are-my-SEC refs. Is there a bowl in our futuer this year?

I still think Bama and/or Oregon lose a game, but agree any combination of them and FSU would be an excellent match-up. Just have to wait it out. My favorite way for this to play out would be FSU/Bama in the BCS title game with tosu whining like little bitches but having to face Oregon in the Rose Bowl and getting beat the way they beat State Pen yesterday. The former big 10 is now behind the PAC 12, SEC, former Big 12, and ACC in conference football status….they are just really bad this year. Historically the most over rated conference, it seems the national perception has finally caught on to them.

How much more fun would it be to see a 2 loss Stanford team destroy osu in the Rose Bowl after a round of epic whining by urban myth about how he deserves to play in the championship.

True, but I think the offensive style of the Ducks would just tap dance all over those arrogant arseholes. Actually, there will be some 3 and 4 loss PAC 12 teams that could put a whipping on them too. You know, they aren’t raising as much hell about the rankings as I expected, could be they know how bad it might be Some of them have TVs up there now and they might have watched an over matched, over rated ND team get humiliated last January.

At the risk of breaking into blubbering about Bama, not that they had to do it very often, but did you see the long snaps there?

FSU seems somehow…for want of a better word, “flashier??” than Bama, and if a title game comes down Bama and the Shoes School, how can anybody in their right mind pick against AJ McCarron.

And this is the reason I feel a little bad for Aaron Murray…Murray works his ass off, almost every play is a test of will and endurance for him. McCarron has so much time to throw the ball he looks like a surgeon at the end of a simple procedure (or something like that.)

If Bama gets steamed by Butch Jones calling them the “red team” can you imagine what they will be like against Awbun?

McCarron’s going to get some poor NFL GM fired, I think. He’s no where near as good as a senior as FSU’s QB is as a freshman, but with that line and those backs, and WRs to throw to, it doesn’t matter. And some idiot team will waste a 1st or 2nd round pick on him because he “just wins”, even though the other 10 guys have a ton to do with it.

Long snapper is from Bakersfield,CA. That is what the ability to recruit nationally will get you. Wish we had it. I don’t think that we’ve had a good player from a CA high school since Jeff Sanchez in the late 70’s.

  8. Oregon just plain wore out UCLA. The score was 14-14 with 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Oregon then peeled off 4 straight td drives Oregon was executing 8 and 9 play scoring drives in 2 minutes, And there were few clock stoppages as Oregon was most rushing and running over a tired defense . They had one 9 play drive that took 1 minute a 32 seconds.

Oregon is physically and mentally conditioned to handle those rapid offensive plays because they practice that way every day. And Oregon’s defense is improving because of all those plays they have to defend each day at practice for months. Its like their defense has gained 2 seasons worth of experience in half the games.

It’s called coaching, Scott….happens when there is innovative thinking within the staff with a modicum of talented players. Works almost every time.

What Bama does is so simple and methodical and they don’t beat themselves. My money’s on them against anybody. Saban just sent a message to all their fans. Watch for some to die in the stands in fear of leaving early.

I guess I will be the one dissenter who says that (if it comes down to the Noles and the Tide) I think. FSU beats Bama.
And that aint a bad thing, IMHO.

IDK which is worse, Bama having fuel to snatch kids from ATL or Free Shoes snatching the So. Ga/Lowndes/Valdosta kids. I’d probably go for Bama. They are already getting their share of our high school stars, no need to let FSU back into the state.
