According to Georgia’s sports communications office, no other Bulldogs starting quarterback has more than two wins against the Gators dating to the 1940s, but Murray could join Rauch and Belue on Saturday.
It never, ever gets old beating Florida. And shame on any Georgia fan who dismisses that.

I think you’re on to something. We need to receive the opening kick and go for a 29:00 touchdown drive. Then we need to onside the 2nd half kickoff, recover, and kick a field goal. Florida might score when they get the ball back, but we can close the game out with a 22:00 drive as time expires.

“If Gurley AND the OL plays”…FIFY. You have to believe the one lesson the gators can learn from last year is to come out and smash us in the mouth like we did to them. If the OL responds, the gators probably wilt and we win comfortably with FL’s inability to score. But if we dive Gurley into a stacked box with no openings for 3 – 4 consecutive 3 & outs, it will be hard to hang around in the stadium for long and watch us take a beating by their inept offense, especially in a steady downpour. BTW…rain hurts us more as we need to pass the ball for success.

And not to be a heretic, but…ummmm…if somehow FL, you know…errrr…how shall I say this…wins?….don’t they sort of fall into the SEC east picture too as a mirror image of our path? Gator fans also are bemoaning their coverage of slot receivers, so the TE or some 3rd WR (Rumph? Davis? Tibbs?) will need to step up there. UF has 2 elite corners, but then some question marks, and can also be beaten physically on the line. Would love to see us go with a mix of pistol/diamond and then 4 wide stuff, plus tempo to tax their depth.

Yep, TN is truly a “hated rival”, this isn’t the 60s any more so GT doesn’t make my list. For the sake of those who will point out “just lose to them and you will see”, please, I can take a once every 7-10 year loss to a non-conference rival better than I can take a loss to ANY conference foe. Realize others feel differently but things have to be updated. I would have hated the Vols more than in the 60s and 70s if we had just played them regularly.
Time to move GT to an every four year game in Athens like we do Ga. Southern, Tech needs revenue too, and they also don’t deserve the status of a home and home.

Don’t take this the wrong way ML but I am curious as to whether did you actually went to UGA or whether you have just been a life long fan? Understand I am not in any way trying to diminish any Dawg fan who didn’t go to UGA, I know many Dawg fans who grew up Georgia and went to GA Southern, Mercer, Emory, straight to the military, etc. that are as hardcore and as loyal as anybody who went to UGA but in my real life experience my friends that didn’t go to UGA to school tend to be more dismissive of Tech as a rival and I am just curious if that is the case with you. Maybe you went to UGA at a different time than I did but I was at UGA in the late 90’s when they started their three in a row streak and won the game by the two atrocious non-fumble and fumble calls in 98 and 99 and that has probably colored my hatred of them. While I hate Florida more, Tech is a close second with me, like Russ I can never have us beat them often enough or bad enough.

I went to UGA and would love to stop playing stupid Tech. I don’t hate them, they are just an annoyance like their namesake or this phone I’m typing on.
Replace them with Clemson or expanded SEC sched. Don’t want to play GA State, GA Southern, or Agnes Scott either.

Not offended at all Brandon, I have been a Dawg fan ever since I became a CFB fan in my teens. I didn’t attend UGA, although I had a baseball scholly offer, but I chose Ga Southern because it was top 10 baseball school at the time and I felt that was the place to pursue my dream of playing major league baseball (UGA was not good at all then). GSU had no football program then, and everyone considered them “our team” as we were part of the same university system. We felt like we were UGA students on a satellite campus, kinda sorta, when it came to football. Attended many games and partied with the fraternity and sorority counterparts (they actually were behaving decently at that time).
I honestly do not feel that impacts my feelings about GT any at all, although I realize you seem to feel differently. My feelings are driven by GT’s ridiculous decision to leave the SEC, they didn’t decline all the way at the time but gradually became less of a significant rival as other rivalries heated up (Florida, Auburn, then UT and SC.) I hated those 1990 losses as much as you, and especially 1999’s outright theft.

And I agree, we should move to a different model with Tech scheduling. Something more akin to what we do with Clemson or Georgia Southern. Hell, we’ve got Georgia State to support now. How are we going to give them a $750,000 pay day without cutting into Tech’s “mini pack” sales?

If Georgia and South Carolina win out in conference play (likely), and Missouri beats Tennessee, Kentucky and Ole Miss before losing to Texas A&M (certainly possible), you’d have three teams with 6-2 records who went 1-1 versus the other two. What’s the tiebreaker?

I agree that Auburn is going to be a dangerous game for us…either QB will be a pass/run threat, they have good lines, quality backs (note the plural) and are well coached…and IMHO Gus Maltzhan is SEC Coach of the Year. Of course, the Iron Bowl will come into play for that. Go Dawgs, GAATA!!

Every SEC team has scored 30 or more points against UGA. Every.Single.One. And that includes Vandy and Tennessee.
The UGA defense last year was chocked full of NFL talent and they were not very good then either. Until they played Florida. As an aside, the UGA defense gave up almost 4000 rushing yards to Alabama in the SECCG.
The Ga. defensive coordinator, Todd “you are going to f***ing choke Chaz” Grantham is on the hot seat this year. Which seems like a yearly event with UGA defensive coordinators since Richt was hired. I wrote on another football board, the not so Mighty Gator offense is likely to save Todd’s job.

At the time UGA played Tennessee, the Vols had a woeful offense. They were either last or second to last in the SEC. And even now, Tennessee is only marginally better than Florida on offense. Funny, how they got well against UGA

How many starters from the SC and LSU games are available for the Florida game. With no mid / deep passing game re W/Os available not sure even Gurley will help this offense. More so inside the 20 yardline if and how oftern they get there. The O staff will have to pull alot of rabbits out of the hat.

Senator, you are correct sir. No trolling from me. However, I do stand by my Vanderbilt statement. The moral of this team was awful following the Mizzou game and the loss of there dreams (and rightfully so). Once they found themselves in a tough spot against Vandy they were unable to fight through it. Players and coaches. I believe the result would have been the same if Gurley or Marshall or Wesley or Mitchell or Bennett were on the field. This team was not out talented by Vandy. They lost. Lost their focus. Lost their drive. Lost their will. And the coaches did not have the answer. What remains unanswered is whether or not the coaches are able to regroup this team for the remainder of the season.

Of course I want to beat Florida, Auburn and Tech. But as much as that means, and as important as it is, even running the old trifecta would not be enough to save this season.
This season is a frustrating disappointment and nothing can really change that. We aren’t going to play in the SECCG, IMO, and odds of beating Florida, Auburn, and even Tech – with this defense – are not good, either.
Capital One, Outback, Chick-Fil-A … all of that is a letdown because no matter what happens from here, we have underachieved .. once again.
No amount of spin or positive thinking can make lemonade out of this rotten lemon of a season. A potentially great team loses three games because it isn’t coached well enough to keep from beating itself. And it didn’t have to be that way.
It SHOULDN’T have been that way. It’s important to beat the Gators Saturday. But not because it might salvage the season. That isn’t possible.

Personally I think finishing 9-3 would be quite the statement when one considers the injuries we have had that absolutely gutted the team. That would include wins over Carolina/LSU/UT/UF/AU and GT.
