Lundquist said he enjoys the website Every Day Should Be Saturday and described its author, Spencer Hall, as “very, very, very clever.”
This is pretty good, too.
There’s even a Verne Lundquist Drinking Game in which viewers can take a drink depending on when he laughs or makes mistakes on a broadcast. “I’m proud of the fact that mine’s not as active as (Brent) Musburger’s,” he said.
And so is this.
“That’s not a gaping hole in my resume at all,” Lundquist said. “I got to do Georgia-Alabama in the SEC Championship Game last year. That’s enough for me.”

Get The Picture 
Gotta love Verne. He gave a fantastic speech at the Atlanta Touchdown Club a few weeks ago. He had the entire room in the palm of his hand and just told hilarious story after story after story and then was extremely gracious with folks afterwards that wanted pictures and to chat for a little bit. Believe me, he could have gone on for another hour and I don’t know anyone in the room that would have left.
I’m really going to miss him when he’s gone.

Nice article, but Verne should think about hanging up the mic. He certainly shouldn’t reup in 2014. I’ll miss him but he’s been slipping more and more the past couple of years.
Still, a class act and one of the greats in my book.
Question: who takes his place (figuratively)? Who is the next voice of the SEC?

I’d have to think CBS will make a play for Brad Nessler, with the promise of also calling NCAA tourney games, but don’t know if they’d get him. He’s an Atlanta guy, so the travel would be more agreeable to him.
As long as they don’t move Brando onto the main play-by-play role.

Never been one that paid particular attention to who was calling the game, but I do enjoy when he is on the call. Mostly because it means UGA is playing to big game.

Me, too. There’s something comforting in the “Oh My Goodness!” and “My Gracious!” outbursts. Of course, he’s not Larry (an unfair comparison for different media anyway), but the knowledge and quality difference is palpable when I listen to ESPN, ABC or other broadcasts. I’m still steaming over the ABC broadcasters’ attribution of the “Run Lindsay” call to a Tech game (I think they made this error the week following Larry’s passing, so you’d have thought they’d have done their homework).
Two things have earned a permanent warm spot in my heart for Verne and Gary, despite their own errors (Gary has baffled me a couple of times). One is their respect for Munson; as I recall, Verne once admitted his envy for the “hobnail boot” call. The other is their broadcast booth dance during the Auburn blackout game earned. Frankly, if they’d bounced around like that while Auburn players were “Soldier Boying” and kicking our butts, I would have never forgiven them. Since they did if for the good guys, I cut them a lot of slack!

I guess you never read Double Cross then? JFK was whacked because Bobby was being a pain in the butt to the wise guys and they thought that to kill a snake you cut off the head. Since LBJ hated Bobby they thought he would fire him. Politics make strange bed fellows and weird enemies.

Agree with the majority here, I like VL on SEC football, and on The Masters. Never understood the folks who get bent out of shape about a mispronunciation on a name/fact error by a broadcaster who is doing a fast paced game with different teams each week and over 100 different bodies that could come up on a second’s notice. He loves CFB, always loved Munson’s contributions, and has always been fair about the Dawgs. I would be fine if he stays another year, couldn’t blame him if he went his own way at season’s end, and also wonder what would be coming in his place. Toast to him for making many fun memories with his own unique style.

Verne is awesome. Just like college ball vs. the NFL, he’s not perfect. Verne may misidentify a guy on his first big play, but he’ll get it right if the kid becomes a player. It’s all part of the fun. SEC…3:30…Verne… That’s comfort food for the soul.

He and Danielson do a very good job. Enjoy his calls, and he has a “voice” for college football. 50 years is a long time and easy to understand why he may go. Like Munson, the travel, the prep, age, and etc takes a toll. But I will enjoy him remainder of this season.

I’m the paranoid type, and I always feel like they’re pulling for the other team..even so, I do enjoy their broadcast much more than some others. I’m still a huge fan of Todd Blackledge though..He’s the best out there right now. Danielson DID call the replay officials out in UGA’s behalf a couple of times Saturday..Kudos for that.
