It’s Georgia’s tenth game of the season. Malzahn’s coached against Grantham twice already in his career. If he needs Garner to tell him what Georgia does defensively at this point, Auburn’s in more trouble than I thought.
I take all that back if it turns out that Rodney knows how Grantham gives away a blitz call by the way he stands behind that towel. (I keed, I keed.)

I don’t think we can blame Garner for pointing out “…what Georgia does defensively…” Running around disorganized pre-snap, safeties getting beat deep, ILB’s getting isolated on slot receivers, and general cluelessness on covering crossing routes (have we ever dropped a DE into coverage?) are not exactly state secrets.

You know all this stuff about coaches changing jobs…taking the mystic goodies with them…hell folks, everybody knows what everybody does…Will Muschamp probably knows about Georgia’s defense as Garner does.
What they don’t know is when you are going to do what. They get tendencies yes, but you know that too, so change up a little here and there … tendencies go out the window.
But individually…are there players and coaches as individuals who like to kick their old buddies butt?..you bet, but I doubt there is much real animus involved….these guys compete…that’s what they do.
My suspicion is that Rodney Garner’s main concern is winning the game, and you know what? I bet if one of his “doghouse” kids has a great game, Rodney will pat him on the butt for it.

One of the things that makes this series so furious but without real hate is the in breeding among the coaching staffs and players. Auburn has tons of kids who came from Georgia, Georgia has many coaching ties to Auburn in its history, beyond Vince.
Having observed the two schools for a long time, it seems to me there is more similarity in the two student bodies than differences, and the feel of being on Auburn’s campus is much like being in Athens.
The big differences are institutional…and we don’t have the Crimson team to deal with every year, at the bar, over dinner everywhere…back in the days of yore when Tech played football, things were much the same with us.
Them Awbun folks, they could be our cousins….makes for a helluva game.

Completely agree. In fact having grown up in the Auburn area with every family member but me passing through the institution… Them Awbun folks ARE my cousins! Hehe And parents and grandparents… I almost got kicked out of the family when I moved to Athens and enrolled.

Auburn and Athens are virtually the same place. All you have to do is replace the culture and music history with strip malls and trailer parks, and deduct 200 points from the student’s SAT scores. BOOM! Athens becomes Auburn

I used to feel this way until 2010. Before that we would go to the games with our Auburn friends and tease each other in a friendly manner after the game depending on who won. Most of the time I would cheer for Auburn to win if they weren’t playing a game that directly influenced the Dawgs season.
Since the 2010 season I have broken ties with a lot of my former Auburn friends due to the fact that they became absolutely insufferable during the whole Scam Newton debacle. They KNEW it was wrong but were willing to sell their souls for a championship (especially since the Tahd had won one the year before) and to hell with anyone who criticized them or even implied that there was something shady going on. It amazes me that an entire fanbase was so brainwashed by the whole situation, some of these folks I consider intelligent, rational people and they were “All In”.
No my friends since 2010 and the dirty play of Nick Fairly and the blatant breaking of the rules by Auburn, I couldn’t give a flying *#$% about them or anyone associated with that program. 0-12 from now until the end of time wouldn’t be enough.
It’s time for the Dawgs to put the Barners back in their place on Saturday.

Auburn has always cheated and always will. They can’t accept the reality that the most successful football program in America (for 50 years at least) is in Tuscaloosa. The sad thing is that despite their willingness to win at any cost, they will never achieve more than a fraction of Bama’s success.

I feel the exact same way, Rocket Dawg. Oh, they were loud and obnoxious in 2010, and “all in” as you say. I too questioned their values. Now I know, that their “Fans” do not care about anything but winning even if they have to cheat to win. No ethics on the plains. About that comparison of Auburn to Athens….NOT!!! Please, I have spent some time down there. No class…none….nothing like Athens.

AU has had kids like that since at least 1975. A bunch of them went to my HS in DeKalb County. One of them tried to tells me back then that the AU freshman class has comparable SAT scores to the freshman at Harvard. I don’t think she was high, or that she’d just had a serious head injury. She and her fellow AU travelers were convinced that UGA was full of ignorant rednecks,too. Maybe she thought she really WAS at Harvard, I don’t know. Hate that place, have always hated that place. Bunch of stump jumpin’, low class, big mouthed cheating wannabes. I used to hate the fact so many of them moved to Atlanta when I lived there. Ugh

I think the more important factor is which team’s DL coach is making a bigger impact. Of our D coaches, I believe Wilson is the only one who’s earned his paycheck. Regardless of Saturday’s outcome, I’m happy with the way RG’s departure has worked out. But RG was smart to hitch his wagon to malzahn, who’s no dummy when it comes to coaching. Problem is, malzahn’s probably going to demand more from RG than CMR ever did.
