Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to Smartass Richt.
Me likey. Must have stung, too, if that’s what got the flag thrown.
Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to Smartass Richt.
Mark Richt said he was flagged for saying "You guys are the best officials in the SEC." Apparently sarcasm gets you 15 yards these days.

Me likey. Must have stung, too, if that’s what got the flag thrown.
“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
I don’t believe that’s what he said!!

I absolutely believe it. It is perfectly in tune with how the situation played out and got under Wager’s skin so fast.

Wagers is too smart to believe he deserves a compliment.

Folks, folks….read the story, he did not say it to Wagers, he said it to the other guy and Wagers called targeting because he said anything.

Yes but to Penn the wagers of third person sarcasm is even worse

He has been a little curt with the halftime interviews as well.

He also said later that the flag was an indication of how he’s been feeling about things for a while. I love it, personally.

Bless his heart! I wish he’d punched Wagers in the nose then called him out at the press conference. Somebody has to put this in the open. Funny how coaches and players have to answer questions publicly while the refs NEVER have to face the press and answer questions like”Mr. Wagers, do you and your crew have an agenda with UGA?” or “Mr Wagers, how do you defend throwing a flag on Coach Richt in that situation?”. Or perhaps “Mr Wagers, how does having a ball under your leg constitute possession of the ball when the other player has both hands around it?” Seems totally lame that refs get a complete pass while coaches and players have to answer for their flops.

Yea, maybe we be able to sue them between plays too.

If that is an indication of the pettiness at play with one Penn Wagers then the Dawgs are clearly at a competitive disadvantage every time he calls one of their games. How can the UGa athletic dept. allow his dickishness to stand? This continual prejudice has become untenable (in the extreme).

When I Learned that Penn Wagers & Crew were officiating, I knew that a few “Critical” calls would not go the Dawgs way. Hard to overcome that.

I’m skeptical that the conference would even listen to UGA. We have no leverage. We could give them bad press. But they care about money, not ink.
Are we going to start refusing to take the field when Wagers is working? Forfeit games? Not likely. Are we going to leave the conference and join the Big East? Hardly.
We pretty much have to hope that somebody at the SEC eventually develops a conscience on the subject of officiating. But we shouldn’t hold our breath.
For what it’s worth, I think Richt and McGarity probably should start publicly complaining about the officiating. They will be fined. But it will be relatively minor. And that’s really the only hope they have. We’ve spent 6 seasons hoping that Wagers would grow up and it’s obviously not going to happen.

A word or two about special teams. Am I the only poster on this blog who remembers when UGA STs were a thing of beauty? Remember Jake Scott running back punts for TDs instead of fair-catching every single punt? Remember Buzzy Rosenberg taking punt returns straight up the middle of the field so quickly that he was by the first wave of tacklers before they could react, then cutting left or right and running up the sideline for a TD–and sometimes doing it more than once a game? How many punts have we had run back for a TD this season? In fact, when was the last time a UGA player scored a TD on a punt return? And I’m not even going to talk about punt coverage other than to say that it used to be a strength not a weakness for Georgia. I’m sorry, but this whole ST thing is a major hole in our program and if CMR continues to refuse to fix it we need to find someone else who will.

The last punt return TD for Georgia I remember is Prince Miller’s 91 yard return against Bama in 2008.

I thought he was from down in the boondocks. Evidently he is from South Carolina attended a technical school, not Clemmons or USCe. Another site had his voted hands down most incompetent officiating crew. Somehow I had though he was from Elabimmer.

For a while Penn’s crew were only working the bad games like out of conference etc. I guess Steve Shaw let Penn convince him that he really knew the rules now so he could get back reefing with the big boys. When he calls a game there is never a doubt who he is betting er pulling for.
