Yesterday, you met Smartass Richt. Now, here’s Coy Richt.
Richt was reminded that Wagers was also the referee in the Florida-Georgia game in 2007.
“Was he?” Richt said, and the crowd assembled for the radio show could be heard laughing. “I don’t know what to say.”
I suppose it could have just slipped his mind. Ehhhhh… nah.
He was also the official at the 08 cockta party which was the most blatent example of a crew refusing to penalize one team as I’ve ever seen. Starting with Spikes not getting off Moreno, to Tebow’s Int that was nullified, to the bad spot, to florida’s DBS and WRs pushing off all day. To this day, the most in the bag officiating I’ve ever seen.

Totally agree. That was disgusting. And what sucks is that the coaches, the team, and all the fans all know he will screw us one way or another.
Penn Wagers is garbage.

Was that the game where the receiver(Riley Cooper?) actually pulled the jersey of our DB to help launch himself past him for a TD catch?

Yep. Also, Joe Haden mauled AJ on the pick that busted the game open.

My recommendation would be to indirectly hint to McGarity that allowing this guy to make calls is costing our endowment. Mountains are there to be moved.

That might be the best way I have heard yet. Let MCGarity know its hurting his checkbook and we’ll likely see more action on the issue. Remind him that since we aren’t hosting recruits at this game already, this issue is in essence costing us double. Speak money, the man will listen!

Way to go Coach. Thanks for confronting the worst officiating crew in the SEC. Officiating in the SEC was good at one time. Not any longer. No doubt that was a poor damn call. Fans and players like it Coach. The Dawgs have had their share of things go against them so far this season. Would like to see this team put it together with three remaining

How old are you. The SEC refs with maybe a few exceptions have sucked for the 40 years I’ve been watching them.

Wasn’t Penn also at the Bama black out? where the turnover was changed with a late hands to the face flag.

Not sure about that one. I know he was at the 07 Auburn blackout and threw about 5 flags in the 2nd quarter that let Auburn back in the game. He took the end zone celebration very, very personally.

Nope — the Bama black out was our favorite Georgia Tech grad referee, Marc Curles.

No, Wagers did not become a SEC official until about 1999.

Penn Wagers also called the personal foul on *just* Florida in the ’04 UF/UT game when players from both sides were in a bit of a push-off.
Penn Wagers also chased down and screamed at Brian Mimbs in the 2007 Auburn/Georgia game when Mimbs simply tried to sell a roughing-the-kicker penalty.
Wagers is a horse’s ass.

Unrelated, but does anyone remember when Mimbs chased down that player for Hawaii and pushed him down after after the player hit Mimbs? I thought of that the other day, and in the midst of a season of frowns, it brought a smile to my face.

you have to love a referee with a narcissistic streak who thinks everyone came to watch him prance about the field. Not.

Yeah he is pretty full of himself.
“They’re all great guys,” he says. “In fact, sometimes a coach will come out on the field, throwing up their hands, raising Cain, going, ‘Penn, how are the wife and kids?’ ‘I don’t know what we’re doing, but I know you’re doing a damn good job.’ And everybody in the stands thinks I’m getting chewed on. It’s pretty great.”

We could always just design a pick play, so that when he is on our games the WR runs right at him and the QB puts the ball so the WR is just making a catch as they plow him.

He yelled the “Referee is a Son of a Bitch”, to which I replied, “Who said that Son of a Bitch” is a Referee?? I think the worst part of this Wagers thing, is that he’s not trying to hide it. Going to the head of SEC officials Steve Shaw has not helped , it may have made things worse, It truly is sad when the “Game Officials” go from”Enforcing the Rules of the Game” to “Determining The Out Come”. I’m just say’in “GO DAWGS”

Penn is a petty little man who likely has a shitty life and only get any satisfaction by knowing that once a week he is god. I guess it’s good that he has this or he would most likely be in a bell tower shooting at people.

True Story: I was staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Athens several years ago with friends. Evidently, the game day officials stay there for the weekend as well. I’m riding the elevator down to the lobby Saturday when the door opens and 6 zebras in full gameday attire get onto the elevator. Penn Wagers was in my midst for a 1 floor ride down to the lobby. Not a word was spoken by anybody on the elevator. As the door open and my crowd exited, I could’t help myself–I turned to Mr. Wagers and said “Goodluck today. And, please let’s keep it fair.” He didnt acknowledge my comment at the time. However, per a friend who stayed behind on the elevator, as soon as the door closed, Wagers said, “Typical Georgia prick. I hate these guys,” as they rode to the ground floor to be whisked away to Sanford.

Why wouldn’t you and Todd just do a synchronized backflip off the 10M like a Thelma and Louise except backwards. That would be awesome. Even the Disneys are going to be pretty restless this offseason even more so than last because A-aron and 3/5 of the OL will be gone and the defense will be back.

I am waiting for someone to bring out the competent side of Mark Richt.
As an alumnus, a supporter of this unitversity and it’s athletic program, this article just burns me. The lack of attention to detail in our football program is mind-boggling.

Has anybody been able to explain what Corey Moore (#39) was doing on that play? Other than letting up, taking himself out of the play, and making himself a spectator?
I think that might piss me off more than anything.

Corey was covering his third of the zone and not fighting his teammates for the ball.

“Corey was covering his third of the zone…”
I’ll agree that he was doing that earlier in the play. Unfortunately, that has nothing to do with my question.
“…and not fighting his teammates for the ball”
That’s nice. What about get in the vicinity in case it got tipped? Or shadow the receiver as he’s going by the DBs?

Sorry Joe, I shouldn’t have been so sarcastic. I apologize. As you can tell, I’m a little irritated that this isn’t getting much attention but you didn’t deserve that response.
Moore covering his third of the zone does explain what he was doing earlier in the play. However, it doesn’t explain why he let up. He was right there and shouldn’t have stopped to watch. I feel like I see this all the time with our players – quitting on the play before it is over. Do I know for a fact that Moore could have made a difference? Absolutely not. But that isn’t the point at all.

No problem. I am as frustrated as the rest of our fans.
Playing through to the whistle is one more detail that does not get enough attention in our program.
We see it too often with our offensive line and our defense. It almost cost us the Florida game and contributed to our Missouri loss.
