Answering a question with a question

In response to Jeff Schultz’ query, all I can say is was Georgia Tech more motivated than Georgia in 2009? Somebody seemed to think so at the time.  At least until they played.

It’s the rivalry game that got Richt his job.  Motivation won’t be an issue this week.

So everyone seems to be Dawgrading Hutson Mason. Good, will make the victory all the sweeter.

I have a feeling that the boys in red and black are going to be feeling great about the future of their offense and the nerds are going to be thinking twice about the future of their offense.

Mason is going to play with plenty to prove.

  3. Look forward to seeing Mason play. Also look forward to seeing if the screen game continues to be an emphasis with Mason at the helm.

Do not look forward to the mind numbing Jacket fullback dive and cutblock option offense. We are going to need to push some guys around on the line of scrimmage to stop it.

I suspect they’ll be some pushing and shoving–if only to remind us that this is a rivalry game, no matter how one sided its been lately.

Maybe Aaron will be on the sidelines to cheer for his understudy.

Based on him hitting the film study books early today, I think he’ll be on the sideline with a headset on.

Here’s a blast from the past….Peach Bowl…Ray’s last game…Hines at QB, Mike Bobo hobbling around on the sidelines (broke his kneecap vs. Ole Miss) screams at Hines to “throw the damn ball, throw it….)

I wish you didn’t link to stories from the idiots at the AJC. Schultz and Bradley suck. What an awful Sports page to an awful paper. Every time I follow your link over there and skim through their idiotic story written to the level of a 2nd grader only designed to rile up page hits, and then follow it down to their even worse comments section, I feel like punching myself in the face.

I hope the line stays around UGA -3, my online book doesn’t have it posted yet but the early lines at some books in Vegas were in the 3-4 points range. I expected the over reaction to the Murray/Mason change and feel it presents a good opportunity for an early Christmas present to myself.

Truth is, the result of this game will not depend on who is playing QB for UGA because the Dawgs will move the ball easily with either. With the usual any given Saturday disclaimer, the only chance for GT is to keep the UGA offense off the field by moving the chains every time they have ball and eliminating turnovers. Chances of that with UGA’s ability to plug the middle and Vad Lee’s inability to exploit our secondary, are slim. They have been beaten by some weak teams and blown up by the only offense they have seen that is similar to UGA’s caliber. This game should look a lot like last year so even with Mason starting his first game on the road there is plenty of room for some fall off.

Good assessment. The key to the game is our D. Tech will get its yards, but if we keep them out of the endzone more often than not, then we should win by a couple of TDs – maybe more. My only concern is that we see reprises of Kentucky’s first TD.

I’m not worried about the O’s performance. Mason appears competent, and that should be more than enough for us to move the ball against the gnats. Of course, we also could reprise the Joe Cox game and just feed the ball to Gurley and Douglas. I think that’d work, too.

I can’t believe the spread is that low. Rarely do I bet on the Dawgs but this is one worth playing.

The Dogs will have plenty of motivation to win this game. Two words. Aaron Murray.

  8. The AJC gets scooped by the Marietta Daily Journal on one of the biggest sports stories ever in Atlanta, and Schultz is still writing Paul Johnson love letters. I feel for the AJC staffers who have lost their jobs in the last few years while Schultz still commands a big paycheck for…..what, exactly, I’m not sure.

The media will treat this like Greg Talley, Preston Jones, Cory Phillips, or Joe Tereshinski III will be starting on Saturday. Mason is an upperclassman who would have seen the field at many of our rivals LAST year. What do you think UF would give to have him Qb’ing right now?

Apparently, Goldberg had a great speech to the team and just his mere presence would fire up a lot of people. Wonder if they let Murray give the pregame speech on Saturday?

If Mason had committed misdeameanor sexual battery or been part of stealing from fellow student-athletes, he could be starting at one of our rivals already. As it turns out, I’m sort of hoping he commits sexual battery against the Jackets this Saturday.

Will AM be on the sidelines sending in playcalls and signals to HM and FB. Said he was in the filmroom this weekend. Will the #15 D1 offense stay on course with HM. Can they keep pace with #47 GT. Played #10 Clemson, #12 Auburn, #25 Carolina, and #26 LSU. Road games have been tough on Dawgs this season.

Anyone have those fun UGA/GT stats that show the lopsided nature of this rivalry lately? I need some good facebook status ammo and I know I got them here from a poster last year.

You mean like the ones where Paul Johnson has lost to Middle Tennessee State in 5 years as many times as Mark Richt has lost to Georgia Tech in 12?

      Like

    • Since Richt got to Athens, Duke has as many wins over Georgia Tech as Georgia Tech has over Georgia.

(Although this isn’t as funny anymore now that Duke is actually good. And Tech somehow beat them this year!)

Or to put in Tech terms, Coach Richt’s record against Tech is so good…if movies were wins, Coach Richt would have to spot Tech all of the Harry Potters and the Lord of the Rings movies in order for the series record under Richt to be tied.

[I know this doesn’t make any sense to you…but the nerds will cringe at it]

The best stat to hit them with:

During the current millenium Georgia Tech has more NCAA probations than wins over UGA in football.

A couple of other good ones:

-Duke is more competitive with Georgia Tech over the past 50 years than Georgia Tech is with Georgia (in terms of head to head record)

-Mark Richt has won more Clean Old Fashioned Hate games in Atlanta than the past 7 Georgia Tech coaches combined.

Here are some numbers you can throw around:

      Under Richt: 11-1
      Since 1980: 24-8
      Since 1964: 46-12
      Overall: 63-37-5

Back when pterodactyls filled the skies and the forward pass was seen as a Leninist ruse, Tech had actually the edge in the series.

When the Tech Athletic Association went to get the financing to rebuild the basketball arena, it got hung up because Richt holds the mortgage on Grant Field.

i just wish Terrence Moore was still around to make sure everyone knew that we are all racists because …channeling my inner Terrence Moore…the triple option is racist because it doesn’t let black QBs throw the ball enough….or Coach Richt is racist because UGA is always white bulldog…

      you get the idea….

Terrence Moore was really a pioneer…he would have made BANK in the age of trolling for hits.

      The AJC is a jewel.
