Gurley does Moreno.

From Saturday’s game:

Man, I love watching him play.

  1. He’s amazing. Obviously he needs to stay healthy next year, but the thought of him alongside 26, 86, 81, 82, 31, 18, 1, 87, 4, 15 and 22 on offense is amazing.

I don’t know what numbers Blahevich, Michel, and Grubb are going to wear but count on them to make significant our redshirt RB and WRs. If our QB is half what Murray has been we’ll be fantastic!

Please set the Kool-aid down. Starting to echo comments from this past August. We are cursed. Don’t get excited.

It looked like he’s got some of his burst back, too. Granted it was UK, but he seemed more explosive than he has since the ankle injury. BTW, which ankle was hurt? Can’t remember and it would be a really good sign if he launched like that off the one that was sprained.

It was his left ankle that was hurt. He told the press after the game he intentionally jumped off of his right foot. It’s crazy that he was able to think about that kind of thing while he was doing stuff like that.

He also said he probably won’t do that again and that he thought Knowshon’s was more impressive. I’m not sure Moreno’s leap was better but I’m also not sure that he won’t do it again haha. Gurley is ridiculous.

Re burst, I agree. It’s getting better every game, too. I think he’s around 90% now, compared to about 60% the last drive of the UF game.

He’s a freak. Probably the most physically gifted back we’ve ever had. Herschel was a straight ahead bull with Olympian speed. A freak in his own right but not a natural runner. A little stiff and not great lateral movement. This guy is earl Campbell meets Marshall Faulk. He’s a bruiser, he’s instinctual, he’s fast, he’s elusive. And like bobo was quoted from a practice session he “brings it every day!” Let’s hope we can take advantage of his talents next year.

He’s also become really exceptional receiving passes. What a weapon that will be next year for Mason…they’re jamming the box, throw a flare to Gurley in space. Watch him truck people.

  4. He launched from the 5 yard line. Just amazing.

He’s something. A friend texted me to tell my about JHC’s suspension last summer and I responded, “Well, is Todd Gurley still playing for us?” Alas, had Gurley played the whole Clemson game, we win, maybe going away. And we beat Mizzou. And Vandy. Even with all the other injuries, he’s an elite difference maker and I think the best player in CFB not named Manziel. And he might be better than him.

When you watch him play you realized he’s not just a little better than other people out there…he’s a lot better. If he stays healthy, we’ll be hard to beat next year.

  6. I love to watch him play also. He’s almost a clone of Herschel.
No higher tribute is possible. Then comes the paradox ?
Moreno probably ranks 4th in my estimation.
However, I still consider Garrison Hearst to be the second best running back that the Dawgs have had in the years I have been watching. He was right up there with George Rogers, Bo Jackson, & pushing Herschel.

In ability, I think Gurley is better than Herschel. He doesn’t quite have the same top-end speed, I think (it’s hard to judge since defensive players are faster than they were in 1980), and he’s probably not as durable. However, he has a more natural running style and shiftiness that Herschel didn’t have.

I have always put Rodney Hampton ahead of Hearst, but not by much.

  7. Spike

He’s coming for you next, Techies.

  8. I was there, but I didnt realize he pretty much jumped from the 5!

    • I was at the ASU game when Moreno did his thing and I remember it being on the front of the Arizona paper the next morning. After watching the Gurley leap and it bringing back those fond memories I ran the recording back over and over just to be sure I was not mistaken. Sure enough. He launched from the damn 5 yard line. So beautiful. And I guarantee you both of the Kentucky defenders were thinking WTF!

      • The Lone Stranger

Not to be THAT guy, but Moreno hurdled over a C. Michigan defender the week previous to that ASU game. Maybe the pic was in the lead up to that tilt vs. the Devils.

        • Careful Brad

The hurdle was C Mich but the touchdown leap was against ASU and the pic was on the front page the next day. I still have a copy.

Gurley’s was like a rodeo flip…Moreno’s was more like a superman. Both from 5 yard line and impressive

  9. HVL Dawg

Those two UK players beat him to the corner and had the angle on him, but only one of them could even get the two hand touch on him.

  10. Rebar

    Man among boys

  11. Cousin Eddie

Of course you love watch him play…..your not on Defense.

  12. Chuck

He impresses the hell out of me. Runs great, blocks, and catches passes, but more than anything, he accepted the pressure when Marshall went down. Complete football player.

I was hanging with three hot ass ASU girls for Moreno’s TD at the time as well as my boss that played LB for ASU. What a fun weekend. Proceeded to take over Mill Street with fellow UGA compatriots afterward. Tempe never seen anything like it since. What a weekend
