The Bulldog Nation should ask the UGA AA to retire #11. If Theron Sapp’s jersey is retired for one play, Aaron Murray’s jersey should be retired for a great career.

I have the utmost respect for Aaron Murray, his accomplishments and what he stands for, but I am not in favor of retired jerseys for several reasons. I do think there are other ways to honor extra special players and if we did, Aaron would be one of the top 5 for recognition.

Retiring jerseys is a nice touch, but I think there are better ways to honor him. Maybe a yearly award for leadership on & off field in his honor.

Good idea but it’s not something the full Bulldog nation can be involved in. Jersey retirement is the highest honor a team sport athlete can receive.

Wonderful young man. He and Mark Richt belonged together for these five years and I will miss #11 terribly until he returns to our sidelines with a headset.
Thankful for Aaron’s myriad contributions on and off the field.

I’m with eethomas on retiring the jersey. If any QB wants to wear the number he will always be reminded of Aaron by us all and couldn’t live up to the #11. The first #1 is for exploits on the field while the second 1 in the number will be in our hearts. Here’s hoping the “Iron Man” label sticks to him in the future as it does now. Bulldog guts- he has expressed it most and best.

Exactly – another QB that wears #11 will have large shoes to fill. I say the number should be put up in B-M with Sapp, Sinkwich, Trippi, and Walker. The Circle of Honor isn’t enough for Aaron.

I don’t see anyone asking to wear 11 for a long long time as it sets in that his career is over-I wonder do we realize just how special he was ? I hope he can play in the Pros for a while-but like almost everyone I have talked to his destiny is on the sidelines coaching the Georgia Bulldogs.

What a great tribute to one of the finest ever to don the red and black! My dad wore #11, so it immediately became my number. I went to great lengths to ensure I got 11 on every team I played on. I now have two boys and they both wear 11 as well. They have always noticed Aaron because he’s a Dawg and he wears 11. They will both be reading this to learn more about his heart and character.

I’ve seen it firsthand, when I met him at a special needs event at Foley Field. He couldn’t have been nicer to my autistic son. He’ll always have my deepest respect.

Maybe the number 11 should be a team award given to a certain player who lives up to these ideals on a yearly basis? Voted on by the staff? The players?

I know the author pretty well. While she is effusive with praise about some things, she is normally reserved in how she gives that praise. Aaron is a special guy to be singled out in this way.
I’ve heard her mention Aaron’s commitment to her kids multiple times. I’m glad she used her blog to give him props.
