Just wonderin’… you think Nick Saban’s having to deal with much negative recruiting on the trail these days? Because you know he and Kirby would be laying it on pretty thick if the rumor shoe was on the other foot, so to speak.

Maybe – but there’s a difference between, “He could be gone” (which applies to just about any coach) and, “Everyone wants this coach, and this coach wants you” (which applies to only this one).
If Saban is still at Alabama on Signing Day, then we’ll look back at this and say the only practical impact was stealing a bunch of media attention that otherwise would have probably been devoted to Team of Destiny and Gus Bus narratives. Not a bad silver lining.

True. To supposedly hate the media so, he sure likes to get the love doesn’t he? I hope he goes just to watch the panic. The entire Gump nation will be on suicide watch, as college football is the only thing they have to live for.

Nah, they’ve shown how short their memories are. They forget how bad they sucked a few short years ago. They’ll be convinced the next coach they get will still dominate (of course, he may actually continue to dominate).

I wouldn’t be surprised if the next coach does really, really well. Their athletic department has seen firsthand what “the process” looks like and how it operates, so don’t expect them to not continue milking the extra advantages Saban showed them how to manipulate

The intelligent thing for Bama to do if Saban leaves is to promote one of the assistants, probably Kirby Smart, to HC and leave the entire staff and program intact. Let Smart hire whomever he wants as DC, then keep on rolling. Will they do that? Probably not, because of the paranoia surrounding the place. They’ll want to hire an experienced HC from another program. Then they’ll destroy whatever Saban built in a mindless search for something better. At least I hope that’s what they’ll do.

That’s assuming Saban doesn’t pilfer enough key pieces to at least temporarily eliminate them as threats.

I personally don’t think Saban is going anywhere. But if he does, I hope all those kids who skipped out on their home state school in Athens, Georgia with its program stability and its practice of never gray shirting players will still be happy with their decision to play for the first in what promises to be a long line of Mike Shulas and Billy Currys.

See, we just don’t understand the process. Losing to Auburn has given Nick more time to recruit. He’s still got a job…for now…and he can spend his time courting rather than prepping for FSU. That’s a silver lining.

Nick doesn’t really redshirt that often. He signed three 4 and 5 star running backs last year, to add to the 6 or 7 he had signed the years before. 2 saw (Tenpenny and Henry) carries this year.

If there’s nothing to this, why hasn’t Saban strongly, publicly come out with a statement this last week?
He’s obsessed with keeping distractions to a minimum for his team, yet he’s letting a pretty huge one drag on in a critical period of recruiting.
That’s what leads me to think there’s a little fire to this smoke…

Don’t underestimate the Bama Athletic Dept’s knowledge of the inner workings of “the process.” You’d be crazy to think they won’t take what Saban has showed them about gaming the system and help the next coach implement it as well. They likely won’t be 3 MNC in 4 years good if he leaves, but they’ll still be a perennial contender. Assuming they will go back to the Shula days is a little far fetched IMO

I said it earlier the Puppet Master is Sexton. He gets his no matter how it goes. FSU had better start to sweat. If Saban stays at Bama Jimbo goes to UT. If Saban goes to UT, Jimbo goes to Bama and Kirby goes to FSU either way. Guess who will get the call to be Kirby’s OC, Mike Bobo come on down.

No. If Saban goes to UT, Jimbo goes to Bama, CMR goes to FSU and Kirby Smart goes to Georgia. Bobo stays at UGA as OC.

Hhmmmm…that’d be interesting.
It’s naive to think that if Saban leaves that Bama can just plug and play the next guy to do great. They probably will get a fine head coach in someone like Smart or Fisher or someone we haven’t thought of. However, the run they’ve been on is remarkable. LSU has a good coach (though he’s crazy, especially on gamedays) and as good a talent as anyone out there. They’ve strung together some remarkable years in the last 5-6 years, but they’ve also had their share of 9-3 and 8-4. It’s just really, really hard to go 11-1 or 12-0 every year, and that’s what they’ve come to expect. As good as Saban has been (and it’s been excellent), he’s one TWO SEC titles in his 7 years in Tuscaloosa. TWO!! And he was darn close to that only being one. As good as he’s been, he’s only been to the dome 3 of those 7 years.
It’s hard to win in this league, and him leaving probably won’t ‘help’ Alabama. And to think it will just keep rolling is crazy. They might, and they’ll be good because of their commitment to win, but he was very fortunate to go on the run he went on. That just ain’t gonna happen much in this league. Too many teams are gunning for you.
