We are a 3-4 base now.

Pruitt runs a variation of the 3-4 that, like Granthm’s often has a four man front. From what I have read, we shouldn’t have a body-type issue to deal with like we did the first year of the CTG 3-4. What I am most excited about is the blitz packages he used at FSU. We brought heat a lot but it was poorly disguised/timed. Of course you would expect that when you often were not aligned completely before the snap.

I think Petrino is serious about sobering up and is doing his 12 step work. Taking Grantham off our hands is his way of making amends to the State of Georgia for leaving the Falcons in the middle of the night. All is forgiven Bobby boy.

“This is at least partially a result of CMRโs ethics and faith”
While there is no doubt about CMR’s ethics and faith, the other part of it was that we had more money in our weapons arsenal than FSU had in theirs:
“As part of the universityโs contract negotiations with Fisher, Wilcox said FSU already has built in an overall salary increase for the Seminolesโ nine assistant coaches. It will then be up to Fisher to decide which assistants receive raises and how much.
Wilcox said the overall increase will be 17 percent.
FSUโs highest-paid assistant right now is defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt at $500,000, and offensive line coach Rick Trickett is next at $455,000. The Seminolesโ nine assistants make a combined $2.86 million each year under their current contracts, so that pool will increase by about $486,000 to nearly $3.35 million.
โWithin Jimboโs contract, we built in a certain percentage increase for assistant coaches that he will basically be able to determine,โ Wilcox told the Democrat on Thursday. โAnd then, generally, we might still have one or two assistant coaches who will get offers elsewhere, and then you may have to go back and look at, โDid we have enough in the pool to make sure that we keep that coach?โ
โAnd if we donโt, weโll need to go back and look at what we need to do to make sure that coach is happy and stays.โ

Let me get this straight. We get rid of a coach that basically sucked and everyone wanted to leave. We get $400k from Louisville. Then we hire one of the hottest D coordinators from the national championship Seminoles for the same $ as said sucky coordinator. Throw in a good recruiter and more inroads into talent rich Florida and I’ll sign on the dotted line right now.

Jimbo Fisher has lost 9 assistant coaches since he took over as HC in 2010. Back in February, Billy Napier quit after just 3 weeks as Tight Ends’s coach and had to pay FSU $75k to walk away. Maybe Jimbo is kinda of an ass?

According to Rivals, we have only 16 recruits at this point, only two of whom were recruited by lakatos or grantham. FSU has 29 commits with Pruitt responsible for 6. This includes the #3 and #8 LBs (our current and only lb recruit is #19). Recruiting aside, I’m very, very excited about Pruitt. GATA

Awesome news. My thoughts are:
#1 – We are rolling the dice a bit (relative lack of experience, and hired from the ACC), but that’s what we needed to do given the D treading water for two years.
#2 – CMR/B-M just got the defending National Champ’s DC to come to Athens (with an assist from Friend?) in less than 48 hours. For a reasonable (in this day and age) salary. This instills some extra faith in CMR/B-M.
#3 – It re-enforces the belief that UGA can do better than Grantham/average D. If CJP doesn’t pan out, hopefully we remember that. We recruit top-10 talent, we should reward them with top-10 caliber coaches.
#4 – This doesn’t fix ST or depth at DB. Perhaps another shoe to drop on the assistant coach front, and of course any effect to recruiting.

Why all the hate on KS after this? He has not wronged Georgia by not coming back to coach there. Pretty good situation where he is – can’t blame him. Pruitt was a great coach at Bama and the players really liked him. FSU hired him away and now UGA did too. Makes me sad since I am BAMA fan and I have to admit that we thoroughly enjoyed Grantham being the DC ๐

Everyone doesn’t hate him, as you could see from the comments over the past few days there are many who wanted him. Others, like me, feel he played us when we needed a DC three years ago. He gave all indications that he wanted to come home but then sold out for the higher money at Alabama. Loyalty isn’t something you put up for bid so he burned some bridges there. I think Smart would have been better off coming to UGA, or going somewhere different, and proving his worth away from Saban. There are many who don’t know if it is “live, or is it Memorex?”. Those questions are legit because of Saban’s domineering style. I think everyone would wish him well once he goes somewhere other than the SEC. If he stays in the SEC, he becomes a target, just like Agent Muschamp.

I’d say much of the “hatin” on Kirby is the usual internet garbage that leads some guys to post things about supermodels like “I wouldn’t fuck her” or “what a dog”.
If Kirby had been hired, the same internet Adonis would be crowing that their source “close to the program” had told them this was in the works.

The best part of the whole situation is that it happened so quickly. This completely exposes a LOT of windbags who claim to be insiders with behind-the-scenes information to be complete frauds. Oh, so you’re saying we’re making a run at Kirby Smart first and we’re now just waiting for the details to be worked out? No. It took 41 hours to get our man from Florida State, and I guarantee you that there was no time wasted on other candidates if we got a coach hired that quickly. If it had taken longer, the idiots could hem and haw about how what they said didn’t turn out for one reason or another. This way, no, buddy. You’re clearly just making stuff up for purposes of self aggrandizement.
