Todd Grantham? Big fan of Greg McGarity… big fan.

You know, earlier today I posted that link to Seth’s article about Grantham’s tweets because I thought they were ambiguous, but worth a fun spin.  I couldn’t say for sure that Grantham was taking a shot at the Georgia program.

I’m pretty sure now, though.

“What appealed to me most was being able to team up with coach Petrino and what he does but also the vision of the athletic director and if you look at the things he’s done,” Grantham said. “To win a championship, it takes a lot of different elements. And the first thing it takes is to have an athletic director that has a vision for the resources needed moving forward. And you obviously have that.”

Ouch.  But I bet Georgia’s reserve fund kicks Louisville’s reserve fund’s ass, man.

Of course, maybe all that means is that now he’s working for somebody who’s willing to shell five million large to a coach who can say this with a straight face:

“Two of the last three years we’ve won the SEC East,” Grantham said. “We really have been the backbone of getting to those conference championships. I think the ability to see how we changed an identity and developed some mental toughness and physical toughness there and develop players.”

Early prediction:  if Georgia gets it done in 2014, prepare to hear Grantham praise Pruitt for getting it done with Grantham’s players.

Dear Greg…..call the Chick-Fil-A people. Louisville in the dome to open one year soon.

    Please.

I think Grantham has his body parts mixed up. His porous defenses were often the achilles heel, not the backbone of those teams.

    Anyway, have a nice life.

Seriously. I have mentioned this before but I have had a state championship former defensive coordinator and head coach who coached defenses in high school in the State of Georgia tell me that we couldn’t stop Alabama’s run in the second half of the 2012 SEC championship game because we were repeatedly lining up wrong. We were consistently being outnumbered on one side and there was an adjustment that could have been made and that Grantham was either to stubborn or too stupid to make it. I don’t know x’s and o’s well enough to explain it but this guy swears to it and I believe him. So the reason we didn’t win an MNC in 2012 IS Todd Grantham. Also the fact that we didn’t have a suffocating defense with Jarvis and Alec Ogletree and the other players who were drafted off of last year’s defense is a worse indictment of him than anything that happened this year, I have siad that all along.

    How would Grantham know that?

He watched it on TV, the winning team is able to hold their opponents to under 300 yards rushing.

      It’s true.

I know some people “close to the program” (ha-ha!) and one of them told me months ago that McGarity was pissed at CTG for job fishing last year AFTER the 3 year extension and DURING signing day.

I have to agree that we weren’t nearly as soft as we were we he got there. That’s all he said and its really undeniably true. The sole reason that the majority wasn’t looking to fire the guy was the effort that the players gave. That’s probably also the sole reason that he got a 5 mil K.

What a bunch of crap. His best defense was mediocre for the talent we had, finishing either 4th or 5th overall in the conference. He could have stayed at Georgia for 20 years and never have gotten it done.

The identity change is certainly critical and it’s going to take place this year, thanks to Grantham bailing out of town before he sunk the ship. Another year of his incompetent leadership and pathetic defense would likely have gotten Richt fired.

We’re all excited about Pruitt right now, but he has his hands full. Lots of bad habits to break, and not the best talent to work with, especially in the secondary, thanks to the poor evaluations, roster management, and recruiting of Grantham & Co..

Good dad-gum riddance. Grantham never cared anything about Georgia anyway. He was never anything but a whore. Sorry, but him taking shots at us angers me a little. I guess we knew all along the guy has no class. Just happy the POS is gone.

Well, at least I don’t have to simply “smh” when he makes the “choke” gesture at Virginia’s kicker in OT. I can flat out laugh at him.

all the little snipes and shots running in both directions really show is that Grantham and UGA were both ready for a change, and now that the change has been made (with face saved on both sides), neither can resist letting the other know “It was you, not me.” The minute he hit the road for Louisville, I quit worrying about Todd Grantham. We’ll be fine, and he’ll be someplace else long before his 5 year deal expires.

Total lack of self awareness. Talking about an AD having a forward looking vision…an AD that just hired Bobby I Might Leave You A Note In The Middle Of The Night Petrino.

Wasn’t UGA’s D last year the worst in the history of the program? How many points a game did we give up on average? (I’m guessing the high 20’s). We had to try and outscore opponents arena football style last year (Clemson, LSU, UT, SCU, Missou, AU, GT, Vandy)….yet he/they were the backbone of our success.

Dude is about as shameless as it gets.

“…as shameless as it gets.” Moreso when you consider the excuses he fed to us and many agreed with him. 2012 did it for me when he had the bashers all coming back, but couldn’t communicate well enough to the field to get the job done, yet it was a diff excuse for every game that didn’t live up to the expectations he gave us.

Fool me once,…….what about a guy that fools the fanbase about 20 times while we bought into all that he said? Shame on us for not being more analytical with his excuses.

If Georgia was a jelly fish, then yes, CTG’s defenses were most certainly the backbone

It might have been intended by Grantham to be snarky but he’s right about McGarity. McCheap isn’t about winning championships, he’s about $$. And he’s not the only one at B-M who is that way. I favor ridding ourselves of McCheap and hiring a demonstrated winner as AD, then cleaning house at B-M, including the AB. Get some new blood that wants to win rather than pad the reserve fund. The football team wins in spite of those guys not because of them. Isn’t it supposed to be the other way around? Aren’t the B-Mers supposed to help the team win?

Listen…. I vaguely remember Todd Grantham being at Georgia, but I also understand that if I had blown off Mark Richt to go to work for Bobby Petrino at Louvell (colloquial pronunciation) I would also be grasping at every possible straw to justify my existence.

Petrino won’t notice whether his defense stops anybody, anyway.

Petrino is like the car dealer who hates his service department, but his dealer contract requires him to have one, so he does.
