He loved his family, his neighbors, Georgia Tech, the Atlanta Braves, bowling (he was a great bowler), the Atlanta Journal/Constitution (where his dad had worked), Waffle House, Hickory House and the Picadilly Cafeteria, and Little Debbie. He didn’t get his final wish for Tech, which to see Paul Johnson get fired, but hey, there’s still time.
If only he’d taken out a life insurance policy big enough to cover Johnson’s buyout.

Remember, Senator, there is no offseason for clean, old fashioned hate. You have set a high standard for the rest of 2014 with that one, however. Can you maintain focus and consistency? Stewart Mandel wonders if your gibe would be understood in Montana, but I think it was a nice shot.

Lost my father who was a Damn Good Dawg late last summer. He was a cheerleader when he was a student and never outgrew it.
I think I know what you are going through and hope that my father and yours are up there giving each other some good old fashioned gibes.

Atlanta to Macon is the backbone of unusual obituaries. Mr. Tatum’s thoughts about Paul nicely complement the thoughts in one which reminisced about a 35-7 beatdown by Spurrier, “It is a shame that the last game he saw was the tragedy last Saturday night.”

What a wonderful tribute, he was a real hero. My condolences to his family. My oldest daughter and son in law are GT alums and share his wish for Paul Johnson to be gone.

From his obituary he seems a model human being. Any school would be proud to claim him as an alum.
I wonder sometimes if my winner take all view of college football obscures the fact that fans of ‘opposing’ schools are most generally good people. My brother went to Georgia Tech, and he’s the best person I know. As much as I detest Auburn, I’ve never met an Auburn fan I didn’t like. Does familiarity breed such contempt? And if so, why? Is college football more divisive than it is inclusive?

IMO, the best part of the whole obituary is this, “Burton and Taylor may have shown more passion and fire, but no man ever loved his wife more than my daddy.” I have to say, that made me tear up a little. I hope my son can say that in my obituary some day. This sounds like one great guy.
