Yep, Nick Saban’s hire of Junior is already bearing fruit.
Even the presence of Lane Kiffin, Alabama’s new and heralded offensive coordinator, couldn’t help the Crimson Tide keep the one of the best quarterbacks the school has ever recruited.
Ricky Town, who is ranked as the nation’s No. 2 pro-style QB for 2015, announced on Twitter on Saturday that he had de-committed from Alabama.
The 6-foot-4 quarterback from Ventura, Calif., had committed to Alabama last summer, and the Crimson Tide became nervous when he made an unofficial visit last week to USC (Kiffin’s former employer).
Alabama’s Nick Saban tried to salvage Town’s commitment last week, making a recruiting trip to St. Bonaventure high school. It didn’t work…
Color me shocked. Evidently a Kiffin-less Southern Cal looks a lot more attractive to Town now. Go figure.
Anytime you de-kiffen something it’s immediatly improved. Jr. seemed such a fit for the plastic society of the left coast, but even they saw through it all pretty quickly. I still can’t believe Saban hired the guy.
Can you hear this kids mind working…”What will it be…Tuskaloosa or Los Angeles?” Tough one there. That gives you some idea of the anti-magnitism that Jr. removed from southern Ca. when he rode out.

What did they say to him? Did they have a video of Kiffin beating Matt Barkley with a clipboard or something?

Maybe they just reminded him how life at Nick’s Place might look coming in after a two-time MNC QB heads out the door and operating in the midst of the hyper-competitive Updykians. Lots of those folk are DEMANDING at least an SEC Title every season.
Additionally, that Sark character has a rep as a quarterback svengali so I’ll betcha that is a factor.

Maybe he talked to Alvin Kamara. Don’t look back, Ricky.

What are the odds Lane gets fired before Spring practice? If so, he could always get a job at Penn State. Franklin loves assistant coaches with hot wives.

“Heralded”? By whom?

I had to double-take at that phrase as well — then I came to my senses and realized the move MUST be a thing of inspiration if Saban and Bama orchestrated it.

It’s because they are getting the kid from FSU. He isn’t coming there to sit on the bench.

Kid from FSU would have to sit out a year. Also that same kid was beat out by a good freshman QB this year.

Coker will be immediately eligible to play. He is a graduate transfer, doesn’t have to sit out any.

A “good” freshmen? How about just about the best ever this side of Johnny.

Coker would only be there two years……Town is a 2015 recruit, they’d only overlap by one year. Can’t imagine that had anything to do with it. I’d think the other 5 QB’s already on the roster had more to do with it than Coker coming in.

There were 5 QBs on the roster when Town committed. But this kid from FSU wasn’t in the picture. Now he is and he’s coming to start. Those coaches tell every kid “you have a chance to start” and Town would’ve been the same. David Cornwell enrolled early to win the job too….how do you think he feels? Could be Kiffin is already having good effect….

The Laner could put Alshon Jeffrey on as a consultant to worthwhile gas stations, if only he wasn’t occupied in The League!
