Tommy Tuberville’s wet dream

Auburn is contemplating claiming a national title for its 2004 team.

***************************************************************************

UPDATE:  Bruce Feldman has a point.

What next? Does Utah also get to claim a national title in 2004 since the Utes won a BCS Bowl in a blowout, were undefeated that year and didn’t have players who went on HBO RealSports and said they received extra benefits as some Tiger players from that team later did?

Corch couldn’t have said that any better himself.

  3. How do they claim a national title they didn’t play for? OU has a more relevant claim than Auburn since they were actually in the game. Let’s claim the 2002 and 2007 championships because we all know we would have beaten both teams that participated in the game using Auburn logic.

OU got boatraced in the BCSNCG by about 40. Even Big Game Bob doesn’t have the sand to claim a title when that happened.

Well, the ’07 team finished the season #2 and then beat the ’07 #1 team (LSU) early in the next season. I’m sayin’ that if we had gotten to play in the SECCG in ’07 we’d have waxed LSU then, and then beaten tOSU in the BCSNCG. So yes, I’m claiming ’07.

Auburn really shouldn’t go down this road. That 2004 USC team was as good a college football team as we’ve seen in 30 years. I think they were better than 2001 Miami. That OU team was fantastic that got dismantled in jaw-dropping fashion. The Auburn team that had a meh victory over a meh VT team should be thankful OU got to take that bullet.

USC would’ve taken Auburn to the woodshed, just like they did in 2003 at Jordan hare. Pete Carroll made a living dismantling highly ranked out of conference teams during his tenure at USC. I’d need a fact check but I believe Texas and Colorado are the only non conference games he lost.

So they are looking to claim one title because another team was put on probation–USC 2004–but then they look to claim another title when they were on probation themselves (1993–didn’t play in SEC championship or bowl game).

It’s Auburn, so they’ll probably do it.

  10. USC and Oklahoma started their seasons at one and two and hung around there all season. The Barners started at 17 and worked their way up to #3. So much for the meme it is better to start lower in the polls. Auburn beat LSU 10-9 that year. The Dawgs ran the LSU team off the field. If only we could have beat uT!
” The LSU Tigers? Their hopes of making another run at No. 1 are finished.
David Greene set a school record by throwing five touchdown passes and No. 3 Georgia got a huge victory in the Southeastern Conference, shredding 13th-ranked LSU and its fearsome defense 45-16 on Saturday.
“It was something you probably just dream about,” Greene said.”

” Muschamp left LSU with Saban after the 2004 season to join the Miami Dolphins staff as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator.”

What would UGA’s title record look like if we broadly encompassed as many polls as this article suggests?? Revisionist history at its finest

I believe both Bama and Georgia Tech claim titles from the leather helmet days…why not Auburn….who the fuck cares, anyway…win the damn game and you got another one….whine, whine, whine.

Pruitt’s D didn’t do a whole bunch to stop Auburn. The 100 yard kick return and Auburn’s 2 db’s not making a tackle on a 5 yard out route with about 50 seconds to go cost AU the game.

Auburn can claim these titles but no one else will recognize them. Auburn is the kid in the back of the pack screaming while everyone else ignores him.

They are doing it because Bama does it. Heck Bama has a couple where I think the three stooges said they were national champs (but didn’t win the sec and lost their bowl game, but they were still national champs). Seriously they do have at least one where some “poll” named them national champs 3 years after the season was over… really ?? Now, the thing with Bama is they have plenty of legit ones so they don’t need to do that, I am thinking their inferiority complex is with Southern Cal, ND, etc….. the barn ?? well their inferiority complex is with everyone, but especially Bama…..
To answer an earlier question regarding how many we would have if we used the stooges too ? I am thinking 7-8 in total but could be wrong.

Jax and Bazooka Joe..Yes, I’m screaming at you while I polish the crystal replica from the 2010 season. Wish I had one more from this past year, and I should have. How many are you polishing? BTW, Gus appears to have Auburn headed in the right direction for years to come, get ready. Auburn has more SEC championships than any other team in the SEC (3) over the last 10 years, and that is a fact. More on the way.

You guys are the Florida Marlins of college football; cheap national titles and horrible valleys in between.

Despite Auburn’s willingness to cheat, the most successful college football program in America will always be in Tuscaloosa. Please keep talking about 2010, and confirm what the rest of the world knows to be true: AU is a paranoid, sick little brother to Bama, clinging to your trophy like a security blanket. Go throw toilet paper on a dead tree.

Only Auburn can fire a coach (Dye) for cheating a name their field for him just 10 short years later. How does Auburn reconcile that? Dye never even won a (legit) national title, was fired, and the wiseguys at Auburn promote his behavior? The answer is simple – you have no morals, in fact you are amoral, and rely on cheating and short-cut tactics to win games. But this should come as no surprise o anyone since Auburn has been doing it for over 50 years. Been caught over and over and over again.

You think you’re on a roll but let me tell you, Georgia has owned you as of late and we’re not going anywhere. I seriously doubt more titles are on the way for Auburn. Suspensions and penalties perhaps, but not titles.

I haven’t looked it up but I seem to recall going way back, and if you add them all up, UGA has about a dozen or so teams that, at the end of the season, were ranked #1 by some poll or another. If the Barners want to play that game…………

I’ve always wondered why UGA doesn’t just claim all possible championships, i.e. “Bama Math”. It would sell more merchandise and impress recruits.

When I punch “UGA” into my trusty Bama Math Calculator, it returns the number 11.

    Ahem.
