Given what Auburn is paying Rodney Garner, Tracy Rocker’s contract looks like a good deal for Georgia.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
I’m guessing that’s probably less than what he was getting at Auburn when Chizik and co. helped start this insane spending war for assistant coaches.

I really don’t have a problem with the compensation for assistants going up, they are vulnerable pawns in this game. Assistants usually do not have multi-year contracts, nor the housing protection the HCs enjoy. I am not saying let’s just burn money but these guys spend a lot of hours away from the family and get dumped at the discretion of the HC, AD, and sometimes the Board of Regents. $200K for competent assistants when their bosses make $700-900K, and the HC makes $3+ million is not out of line to me….in fact it seems a little light.

McGarity currently has the math department trying to come up with a number though. He wants to send out one of those end of the year “total benefits” emails and slap a nice hefty “CMR premium” on that bad boy.

I fully understand keeping overhead as manageable as possible, but at some point we will have to compensate quality assistants competitively.in order to get/keep them. It doesn’t matter who raised the bar for assistant’s salaries, its been raised and it isn’t coming back down.Sherrer for 200K is a steal.McGarity frugality at its very finest.

Hey you get what you pay for. I hope cut-rate pay doesn’t equal cut-rate effort. This whole assistant hiring thing has a strange feel to it. It might be great or we might go down in flames. Kool-Aid poured out and waiting for the Clemson and SC games to show me something.

Rather than panic we must remember that assistant football coaches are ALWAYS looking regardless of their pay. I’m with 69, we have to wait and see the results.

Is there a limit on how many GA coaches we can have? With George Helow and Kellin Johnson coming on board, does this mean Christian Robinson is out?

So does anybody know what Sherrer made last year. I think I saw where the head coach only makes $300,000 +, and what did Rocker earn with the Titans?

Speaking of dear old Rodney, here’s a direct quote from an AJC story about an uncommitted DE that the Dawgs are apparently taking a late shot at: “Ironically, one of the main reasons that Williams likes Auburn so much is because of his relationship with defensive line coach Rodney Garner, the former UGA recruiting coordinator. Garner didn’t show much interest in Williams when he was at UGA, allowing other schools to get a gigantic head start ahead of the Bulldogs in the recruiting process.”

Was in Germany and saw the headline on ESPN that Rocker got hired by UGA. Didn’t have a chance to read it, but I was surprised yet excited about us hiring John Rocker. Knew he was a huge UGA fan, but didn’t realize he was coaching football. Needless to say, i was a little crestfallen when i found out it was Tracy,.
