My favorite part of this inevitable Stingtalk message board thread about Chris Conley’s Star Wars tribute is the commenter who indignantly asked, “How the hell did we not have a better shot at this guy?”

Because, you know, nerds.

It didn’t take the nerd faithful long to start debating the speed of the Millennium Falcon.

It didn’t take long for the inevitable blaming of their high academic standards for their woes either. If they only had the easy standards of Stanford or Duke they’d show us who’s boss then.

I loved the debate they’re having over the speed of a spaceship and what a parsec means.

If Conley pulls off something that is cool and fun to watch, he’ll be the envy of all Techies. So far, their definition of doing something cool is dress up in yellow storm trooper outfits and march in a dragon con parade.

Uh, because he’s a WR that enjoys catching passes?

I thought the MacGyvers* could claim a moral victory based on the overall body of their work:

      “Thermal detonator is in place.”

“Trick question because a parsec is a unit of distance, not time. Bazinga!
However, SEC speed >> Ludicrous speed”

      “You’re welcome”

“You’re looking at around $2,000,000/acre to go private”.
      “I’ll donate $20”

“Revenge is a dish best served digital” (incoming)

      “Squeal like a Gamorrean guard”

Hey, I wondered the same thing. 😉 I’m glad we have him, one of my favorite Dawgs.

Conley is one of the more interesting players we’ve had in a while. He’s a great WR, but he’s also a great interview. He’s soft spoken and articulate, and he talks like he’s 35, not 21. Apparently he’s creative as well; now if he can just stay healthy.

Uncle Verne made a similar comment during either the USCe or LSU game. Both he and Gary were in agreement that CC is one of the most “impressive young men” they’d ever interviewed. He’s a DGD and I’m glad to have him back for another year.

I believe it was Seth Emerson who called Connelly the athlete most likely to be president some day.

Really? That sounds like a lot “first athlete to be president.” Seth, if CC made it he would be in a long line. Gerald Ford, AA as center on the football team at Michigan; Richard Nixon, football, Whittier College; Ronald Reagan, football, Eureka College; Teddy Roosevelt, boxing, Harvard; Dwight Eisenhower, football, Army; Woodrow Wilson, baseball, Davidson; George H.W. Bush, baseball, Yale; and ……Barack Obama, who led the Occidental College basketball team in scoring in 1979.

The catch he made in the 2011 UF game on 3rd down to seal the win made me a believer and big fan of him since.

D-Day? Was he at Normandy for the invasion? Must have used the Millennium Falcon to shoot through a worm-hole.

He was disappointed to find himself in the north rather than the south of France when he heard Archie Manning’s daddy barking signals at Omaha Beach.

I liked the retort from one nerd to the other:

1st nerd “Maybe he can manage a comic book store with his media degree”

2nd nerd “Yeah that will be a great thing to do after his NFL retirement.”
