The interesting thing about the chart in this Athlon SEC East preview is that Georgia has somehow managed to combine losing the most departing seniors with having the most returning starters in the division.
I wonder how often that happens.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
28 Seniors…hmmm the scout team will be devastated.
How come rebuilding the o-line is a big deal at UT, but not worth a mention at Georgia?

UT lost their entire line and 6 of their front 7 on D, plus the running back (Neal). They in trouble.

The O-line and the D-line were the strengths of the UT team last season, if a 5-7 team can be said to have strengths.

Not only was the senior class large and (on average) not very talented, but the junior class couldn’t muster a single early entry. That sounds like two classes in a row where the recruiting didn’t turn out very well, huh? That plus some injuries and some knuckleheads being escorted out the door put them in this position.

A very high percentage of 2013’s Seniors were redshirts or walk-ons.
Signing only 19 players in 2010 was just dumb.
2010 SEC Signees:
Auburn 32
Alabama 29
LSU 29
Florida 27
Mississippi State 26
Kentucky 26
Tennessee 25
Arkansas 25
Mississippi 25
Vanderbilt 24
South Carolina 23
Georgia 19

Man, CMR has made some mistakes that have really bit him in the ass hasn’t he? Good thing is that he seems to adjust (eventually) and learn from the mistakes.

Of course the hot seat meme and calling for his head had nothing to do with those numbers. Sarcasm font.

Good observation, IMO.
That, and the evaluating. That’s where we were really hurting, especially on defense. Bobo picked it up after the 2011 class, and I suspect has learned from those mistakes. So the offense has been pretty good the last several years, except of course, for the OL (not counting this 2014 class, since IDK about them – there’s hope these 4 may be a better group than usual).
Defensively, Grantham improved our eval some, and recruiting, but not nearly enough. That task, and the burden from it, now falls to Pruitt. We’ll see what kind of evaluator he is. On this critical point, I’m very optimistic.

Lorenzo Carter was a great start for Pruitt. I don’t believe CTG would’ve landed Carter.

Thanks for that tidbit. I’m not a recruitnik, so that’s news to me. But it makes sense. I think Pruitt’s going to be great, both at coaching, as well as evaluation and recruiting.

There were 13 seniors out of eligibility and 2 more that gave up their last year of eligibility. That’s 15, not 28. On scholarship anyway.

Kind of explains why 3-=10 was makeable against UGA last year
