Nice of you to shoot from the hip, Herbie.
After taking crap about his tweets from several quarters, Herbstreet backtracks clarifies his observations.
Little testy there, eh?
Here’s the thing: insults aside, I can’t find fault with Herbstreit’s last point on its face. Hell, I share the sentiment. But – and it’s a big but – when’s the last time you saw him go off like that on another program or another head coach who suffered through multiple bouts of knuckleheadedness? And again, all of this coming before any of us know exactly what’s behind this set of charges. (Let us not forget how Williamson’s crew once arrested a Georgia player for failing to give his middle name.) It’s a rush to judgment that may turn out to be embarrassingly premature. But even if things turn out to be serious, Richt’s got a track record of dealing appropriately with that sort of conduct. It’s not really necessary to spout off so carelessly like that so early.
There’s a reason why a lot of college coaches ban their players from Twitter.

UPDATE: Kirk, he’s on the mother.
*************************************************************************
UPDATE #2: When you’ve lost Jeff Schultz…
*************************************************************************
UPDATE #3: I’m inclined to give Herbstreit the benefit of the doubt here and say he stepped up and did the right thing.
Case closed. At least until the next hasty tweet.
“… when’s the last time you saw him go off like that on another program or another head coach who suffered through multiple bouts of knuckleheadedness?”
When’s the last time you saw him go off on other programs that sweep everything under the rug? (see UT, Alabama, etc.)

Not to mention the long running booster support cheating at Ohio. It finally got exposed over something involving tattoos but selling equipment went in for over a decade and then there was Maurice’s ride. Not excusing the stupidity of our four guys but the size of the problem, and how it s dealt with is someplace Herbie the Curbie shouldn’t go.

I knew it, I knew. It had to Saban’s fault somehow! Hahahaha!

We just need another talking head to point out that at least one of these players will be starting for another sec school in 2 years.

It’s early, so I can only think of a top 5:
….
#5 We have too many laws in this country (and state) that make very petty, minor things crimes (I was recently given a ticket for not updating the address on my Georgia drivers license after moving within the state).
#4 Our University does not cover things up (since Jan Kemp, the warts have been on display for all to see).
#3 The local media wallows in stories like these because they sell papers (meanwhile, radio silence about shenanigans at Tech).
#2 We have a police chief who gets off on making “high profile” arrests (at my brother’s freshman orientation, he actually told them that their rights ended with him).
Aaaaaand, drumroll,
#1 18 to 22 year old boys do lots and lots of dumb things (I know, I was one once, and according to my wife, still am some times…).

Come to UGA. You can play for a year, then get booted and there is a high chance in 2 years you will play for NC with some other team.
Seriously though, I am pretty sure Saban just made room for Matthews in his 2015 class.

How many tweets did herby send out when Mathieu(don’t give a crap about spelling). got booted from LSU for failing like 10+ drug tests? Oh guess 0. Apparently not saying or doing crap about an issue until it becomes F’in ridiculous is way better than nipping every issue right in the bud from the get go.
How many tweets did Herby have when all those Tenn. players beat up an off-duty cop? Nevermind, that was handled internally, which once again is a way better way than how Richt goes about stuff.

Exactly. Herbstreit is a piece of shit. Can’t he just focus on running through college cicks at every campus instead of giving UGA guff?

Wow, Kirk sounds like us. You’d have thought he went to Georgia. Luckily, OSU has Oscar Meyer so it’s “time to die” and AK-47s all day.

How many times did he tweet about Tatoogate, oh wait – it wasn’t disclosed and er, Gee was grateful to be working for Tressell.
In other breaking news not being broadcast nationwide, the Auburn DB in the car with a Gun and Mary Jane is cleared by Malzhan to come on down to the Plains. Apparently the other three guys in the car recanted and decided the Gun/Pot was all theirs and the Auburn Recruit was an innocent ride along…
Herby – where are ya’s on that one?

To his credit he was pretty harsh on OSU during tatgate. So much so he had to relocate his family from OH to TN.

I know being a fan colors your lenses and gives bias but if there’s one thing UGA fans have a completely justified reason for being ticked off about it’s clowns like Herbstreit who want to take cheap shots and call our program a bunch of thugs because ironically we’re upfront and nip problems in the bud instead of sweeping them under the rug. seriously GFY.

We will always get the brunt of bad publicity and we will always get bad calls by refs in games. We are UGA, that’s why.

Hey Kirk, if a tree falls in the woods, but no one is there to hear it or tell the world about it, did it actually fall and/or make a sound?

Herbstreit moved his family to Nashville because he was critical of Tressel and the OSU program at the outset of the Tattoo scandal and OSU fans went wild. This is not the first time that he has been critical of a coach for the behavior of players off the field. If he’s willing to do it to his own alma mater, then he can do it for anyone. That said, his position doesn’t make sense in light of the fact that Richt (or, with respect to the inane drug-testing policy, the UGA Administration) sanctions players as much or more than his peers.

Actually, I think THEOSU fans were pretty rough on Herbie even before the tattoo scandal when he gave some independent opinions on THEOSU in BCS contests. Tattoo-gate made it untenable for him in Columbus.
That being said, I think this was a cheap pop against Richt by Herbstreit. Other schools have had issues this offseason (here’s looking at you Missouri) but Herbstreit has resisted calling out the HC in those instances.
It was a cheap pop and undeserved towards Richt.

Screw Herbie. You don’t hear about it at other schools because they don’t publicize it or likely do anything about it.

I agree with the Herb…It’s a tired, reoccurring story. I know CMR disciplines harder than other schools, but what about getting some players that don’t need the discipline? Players that drive with drivers licenses and sober, that don’t steal stipend money, and players that don’t sexually assault…
Everyone seems to say, why doesn’t Herbie call out other schools…Who cares? As a UGA fan, I don’t want to be proud that our guys get arrested less than the other programs, I want a team that is held to a higher standard and whose players I can be proud to say they play for the red and black.

It is tired but Herbstreit’s comments were directed at Richt not the players. Also, a heck of a lot of other schools have had off season issues and Herbstreit hasn’t laid an enabling charge out at Pinkel or Dabo or Malzahn, He could have called out the players first but he went at Richt and “his forgiving heart” ….

Suck it Herbie… “That time He wanted to make something happen quickly over the middle and it just wasn’t there and he was stuck with nothing to do that’s what happened. Often times when he pulls it back that’s what happens he does get stuck. He’s not a great mobile quarterback ..he’s not a great runner… as a matter of fact this year he has run the ball 70 TIMES because he has more or less had to and he has lost 41 yards.”

I think Richt’s track record of dishing out punishment is excellent. Outstanding. He rarely, if ever, gets it wrong.
But somehow, that’s not what people see. They see all the arrests and suspensions. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in this case. I think (not knowing all the facts) I know what I would do.
