SI: But even with injuries, Florida should have made a bowl game, right? It seems inconceivable that the Gators went 4-8.
AH: It seems inconceivable — and yet it happened.
Kinda like the history of the Florida program pre-1990.

“... Shoot, why does anybody who’s ever won something do it again? Because it’s cool. So, let’s go do it again. Let’s see if we’ve got what it takes.” -- Stetson Bennett, The Athletic, 3/22/22
I can see UGA’s serious injury run knocking us out of the SEC title, but there is more than injuries that contributed to that 4-8 season at FU. You have to think along with scheme issues, and some personnel weaknesses, that team had to just quit on Boom. No way a mediocre Ga Southern beats them at home if that team is prepared and trying. FU had better be glad it wasn’t one of GSU’s stronger teams that rode into the Swamp last year, it would have caused a stampede getting out of the stadium at halftime as the fans joined the players in surrendering.

Injuries don’t cause two UF linemen to block each other. Unless they injured their eyes, or brains.

Farther down in the Q&A Hutchins mentions that back up QB is important because Driskel hasn’t made it through a season yet. True freshman QB playing in his first game in JAX?

Their QB position was as unstable as they come. Their only decent qb was known for being a lackluster passer, with manageable running skills. Many, including myself, were saying before the season that if Driskell went down, so did the ship. The reason why their D was doomed to give up ? Think about some of the clips and screenshots of Boom during his tirades, and tell me he’s not more of an @$$hole during practice, especially those closed to media. Adversity tends to either break down or refine us. That’s where leadership becomes vital. Richt ‘s persona is that of a refiner. Most thought the wheels would come off after Boise and the USC game in 2011. His worst season, the year before, we still won enough games to become bowl eligible. UF’s very talented defense literally spent way too much time on the field, which wore them out physically and mentally. The GSU game was simply the beautiful culmination of it all.
