If seeing how much of an effect Pruitt’s simplification of the defense has had is the first thing I’ll be looking for at G-Day, Seth Emerson hits on the second one.
There hasn’t been a real and important quarterback competition for four years on the Georgia football team. Not for starter. Not even for backup.
Now there is one, for the first time since Aaron Murray beat out fellow freshman Zach Mettenberger in the spring of 2010.
It really is going to be a strange feeling watching Bauta and Ramsey go at it. Then again, I’m looking forward to all the expertise that’s bound to be on display in message boards and blog comment threads about how G-Day once again revealed who should be the starter. Unleash the hounds!
Get The Picture 
We are always seem to have a out of QB depth on the roster. This season we have more fullbacks (5) than QBs (4). 2 of those QBs are freshman in RS Fr Brice Ramsey and true freshman Jacob Park. Hope that O-line holds up this season.

I think it’s too much to ask for a player like DJ Shockley to hang around and wait his turn. Examples like Cam Newton, Nick Marshall, Mettenberger, etc. are too common. Most kids think playing for another team is better than sitting the bench in Athens.

WTF are you talking about? All 3 of those guys were kicked off their teams. How would you know if Mett rubbed that girl’s privates because he was tired of waiting around before his freshman season even started. I’m sure Nick was tired of not being the starting QB his freshman year as a DB and figured he’d be better off getting arrested so he could transfer to play QB somewhere! You’re comment is so dumb my head hurts.

Disagree, his examples were of players who stepped onto the field at another school and enjoyed immediate success. You don’t have to get kicked off a team to see that transferring and proving you were a capable QB that was stuck at your former program as a backup is an option you have to consider. UGA was fortunate that Shock and Mason stayed with us but you had better prepare for us to lose highly talented QBs, RBs, WRs, etc. to other programs when our depth keeps a guy from getting his shot to display his talents for NFL scouts. Perhaps his examples should have included others that were not kicked off their original teams but in this day of immediate gratification, don’t expect everyone to wait their turn to work through the ranks.

So, you think that a backup QB would look at the examples of Mett, Marshall, and Newton and conclude that only QBs who were kicked off their teams can succeed at another school? Seriously? Talk about stoopid.

Hutson Mason oughta have a pretty good season this fall. After all, he’s been better than the starter for the last 3 years.

I like Faton’s approach with his comments this past week, he sounded like he has the confidence necessary to be “the man” while admitting he had to win it from Mason. Enough respect, enough serving notice that he was there to win the job if Mason slips, or doesn’t get it done. HM’s comments from the past sounded like someone who was getting shafted, at least they rubbed me that way. I am all for him this season but he did set himself up for very high expectations, and he would have a short rope with me; after a the chatter, you had better deliver because this is a one and done year. Shock stood up early and there was never any doubt he deserved to be on the field, would love for Mason to make his mark.

At least we got to see Mason play 2.5 games last season. I can only imagine how ridiculous people would be if all we had were a couple of mop-up duty games to look at.

Glad that Mason got some game time at the end of last season. I am sure that he will be well prepared. I am not really worried about QB play. I am concerned about defense and special teams and I am very concerned about having enough guys on opening night against Clemson.

DJ had his coming out vs Ga Tech Black Watch and got skinned. A hurt Greene had to come back in and save the day.
DJ doubled down and was much improved by Fall opening day. Hope to see the same kind of decision making elapsed time improvement from Hutson. Got Masons in my wife’s family, but Looks like we got a good backup available.
