Outside linebacker Leonard Floyd, a sophomore from Eastman, Ga., added more than 20 pounds during the offseason and now weighs about 248. Floyd started eight games as a freshman in 2013 and finished with 55 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and a team-high 6.5 sacks. Pruitt will be looking for even more production from Floyd this coming season, and one UGA assistant called him the “best player on the team — period.”
“He’s always making plays and setting the tone,” linebacker Ramik Wilson said. “He stands out every play. He’s just a beast right now.”

You beat me to it. I think Floyd is a heck of a player, and he has a chance be much better. But rhetoric like that cheapens the rest of whatever else that coach had to say.

All kool-aid cups aside … It appears that Floyd is headed down the road to much success. I’ve liked him from the start and hope he continues to get better. As some others have posted on previous GTP blogs, he still has some learning to do, but I think he’s gonna be a DGD!

You need at least one great player on a defense, and Floyd has become ours. I’m hoping there might be one or two others in the works.

IL, if Jenkins could get his work ethic in order, I’d say there’s the obvious candidate for player #2…

Yeah, I’ve been waiting for some indication as to whether or not Jenkins has decided he wants to be a player. At this point, I’m not sure how good he can be, based on what we’ve seen in games.
But I’d say he has a chance to be great. And I’d think he’s already made the decision to get on that track, if he’s going to. By now, he’s decided to put the work in, and do what it takes to reach his potential, or he hasn’t quite bought into that idea all the way.
I do suspect, however, that he understands if he puts in the same effort he did last year under Pruitt, he won’t play. So I doubt we’ll see a repeat of last year. But whether he has that ‘hair on fire’ thing going, we’ll have to wait and see.

I’m hoping for a DL, maybe Mayes. Would love to see it happen at safety, too, but I don’t know if we have any bonafide candidates.
I’m hoping for Terry, but have no clue at this point. Apparently, he hasn’t stood out thus far this spring.

I’ll be the witness from the congregation. Rev Ray might have some say here. Stats will be less flashy for sure, but I really thought he came on last year and will be a huge cornerstone on D. We still can’t lose to Vandy…
