G-Day is coming.

As if you needed a reminder…

I watched a little of Ole Miss’ spring game Saturday and noticed a couple of things.  First, Jeremy Liggins may be even more enormous than billed.  (He’s a freakin’ hulk, although he appeared more trim than the linked photo shows.  I’m not sure he’s particularly mobile, but he looks like he could be a weapon in short yardage situations.)

Second, the game was more like a controlled scrimmage.  I don’t mean that in the sense that all spring games tend to be glorified scrimmages.  Ole Miss ditched the standard game format for some hybrid arrangement where the offenses operated out of set situations and one side was awarded a point for achieving a goal or for preventing one.  Call me old-fashioned, but it lacked emotional impact, which is kinda what you’re inviting the fans for.

So call the traditional set up something else I’ll be grateful for on Saturday.  Just like so many other things these days, I’ll take it as long as I can get it.

Who’s planning on going Saturday?

I’ll be there. Flying in to GSP Wed night, spending some time with the family, then baseball vs Tennessee Fri night and G Day Saturday.

I will be there. Plan to grab a bit at Cali n Titos and then head down to the stadium. Taking the little dude so will probably actually watch the scrimmage on replay, but will have a nice day in athens none the less.

  3. My stupid sister had to be born 30 years ago on April 12th. And she expects me to participate in the celebration of her 30th bday. Geez, siblings are the worst. 🙂

I’ll be watching on tv though.

Hopefully sister dear took (or will take) Colleen’s approach to scheduling a wedding in the fall (see the Sen’s most recent post)

Birthdays are (or should be) utterly pointless after age 21 up till roughly age 70. I totally get making a big deal of birthdays for kids and special birthdays for senior citizens (75, 80, 90, etc.), but if you’re in your 20’s, 40’s, etc. and plan (or expect) birthday celebrations, IMHO that’s really weird. Almost immaturish or childish in a way.

The worst are the ones who let everyone know its their birthday, even complete strangers in, say, a Publix checkout line. Those people really are odd.

Coach Richt has lost control of birthdays!

Wow. Curmudgeon much? Or maybe the family loves them & wants to celebrate and/or use it as an excuse to get together.
I love birthdays. I like to think mine is special and so is everyone else’s. Even yours!

Couldn’t agree more 3rd. Unless you live with the person, you shouldn’t “have” to do anything on their bday (special bdays notwithstanding).

At least you’ll have a TV. I’m ‘required’ to attend my g/f’s daughter’s soccer tourney 4 hours away in Carson City. I’m just hoping I have cell coverage so I can get twitter updates.

I had the pleasure of being born 30 years prior to 2012’s G day Game. Needless to say I choose to celebrate there.

I’ll be down here in Gator Country watching it on CSS. Here’s hoping that Comcast/Charter closing CSS is a sign they are going to carry the SEC Network. I know that they will carry it but the question is whether it will be Basic or in their premium sports package.

Would be there except for The Masters conflict, McFrugal slammed the door shut in many of our faces. Totally an unnecessary conflict with the state’s biggest sporting event. Will watch the replay as soon as it is available. Glad the weather is looking great for both events. (agree with 3rd and G about birthdays though, except that no one’s BD would keep me away from Athens.)

Don’t think that G Day is worth the trip from Montana. I’ll save that for Clemson and Auburn. I’ll count on the Senator and Seth to provide me with complete G Day coverage while I sit in front of the TV rooting for a dawg to win the green jacket.

Got several talented Dawgs in this year’s tournament but I don’t see any of them quite ready this week. 2-3 of them are playing well enough to make a decent showing, but except for one they need a little more Augusta experience first. Looks wide open this year so it is possible. Like you, I will be supporting any charge they make. Harris English had a hole in one yesterday on #12, might have peaked too early.
