An idle thought I had: Do those of you who advocate more piped-in music at Sanford Stadium keep a boom box near the TV set when you’re home watching a Georgia game so you can crank up some proper tuneage before a big play and during commercial breaks?

No, but I also do not stand on my feet for four quarters and yell non-stop while the other team has the ball. It is if they cannot hear me and any crowd noise from my house seemingly has no effect.

LOL. Did you by chance watch the TV broadcast of the game? I finally watched it last night. Hannah Chalker was interviewing Pruitt at halftime and after she asked her first question, he said “I’m sorry I can’t hear you, they just crunk up the music”. He wasn’t being snarky about it, he legitimately didn’t hear the question. At that point I was like Ok, if two people on the field standing right next to each other can’t talk, maybe the volume of the music is a tad overboard.

I noticed that as well. Seems to bode poorly for coaches and trainers, you know, actually coaching and taking care of the players during the game. As Grantham proved last year: poor communication and confusion on the field does not make for an improved college football experience.

It was mighty loud in there Saturday for sure. I sat in the 200 level so I thought it was just because the speakers were right on top of me. Still curious to see if it has an effect on the overall loudness level for a regular season game though. I didn’t necessarily enjoy it, but I didn’t mind it. And if it gives us any kind of noise advantage I’m all for it.

In the initial onset offense is played with your ears while defense is played with your eyes. If it gives us a tactical advantage AND is within the rules then I say be selective in its use and don’t cost us points by not paying detailed attention as to what is played when and how. the right set up could do well. Its been done to us plenty.

I play the radio broadcast when watching on TV, but now I can add the boombox to really get the full live game experience of not being able to hear Scott & Buck on my headphones! Does iTunes have a UGA GameDay Mix?

I hope they do consider hearing damage if my ears ring I want it to be because the fans are doing their job not because of canned music. I don’t want to use ear plugs at a game to preserve my hearing. They watch from the luxury suites so they don’t have to deal with it. If they do that make sure the noise is pumped in there too.

I actually called the Ticket Office today and asked for the person who I could give some feedback to regarding this. If anyone is interested it is Matt Bratkowski (sp?) he is in charge of event management I believe and his number is 706-542-1135. I left him a voice mail hopefully he calls me back.

Just a quick update…I did receive a call back today from Matt at UGA. I told him I wasn’t strongly against piped in music but that I was concerned with the volume level. He stated that they were experimenting and that volume level wasn’t necessarily what it would be on Game Days in the fall. He did also mention that the perceived volume level is impacted by the amount of people in the stadium and could be different with a full house versus what the crowd was at G-Day. I understand that but stated I hoped they were able to find a happy medium. I also mentioned my kids (6 yrs & 7 yrs) complained about the volume level in past seasons of the piped in music. He said he appreciated the feedback and inquired to where my seats so he could note the location. All in all he seemed thoughtful and truly interested in my feedback so at least they are taking note of what fans are saying. He also did mention I was his first call regarding this but others on the UGA staff had received similar feedback. I would encourage everyone to give them feedback no matter which side of the fence you are on regarding this topic. So call, email, or write them and let them know how you stand on this issue.

For me, it’s not just the ever louder music, but the frequent and interminable breaks + jumbotron commercials that make me wonder why I just didn’t stay home. ‘Cause what I do at home is roll back key plays for a second look while I watch so I can just fast forward thru the damn commercials. Can’t do that at the stadium, right?
The home games give you the total crowd experience, and I love Athens, so that will always keep me coming back for a couple games a year. But the others I’m watching from home until and unless the Sanford experience (not to mention parking and concessions) gets a lot better.
