The dark side of Chantastic

This is so sad that I can’t even bring myself to mockery.

Way to go, genius.

    • My dad told me a story of watching a braves game where they cut to Rick Camp (former braves pitcher) in the stands with this very attractive busty woman.
      Long silence. Next pitch
      “That ball was chest high”

Then some other innuendo that I can’t remember. At the end of the game it was time to hand out the player of the game. Skip suggested Rick Camp.

a distinct, but underrated pleasure of growing up listening to the Hawks on radio, then watching the Braves on TBS, was listening to Skip. The dry nature of his wit was often more entertaining than anything that happened in the actual games he called. He was the antithesis of the Ron Burgundy wannabes that populate play by play now.

Ahh, Rick Camp and Rick Mahler…I so long for the days of steroid-free baseball. Yep, the only unauthorized substances were Stroh Lights on ice in the clubhouse.

In the 70’s and 80’s the Braves were a sorry team but the best radio show around.

It is raining out so I watched on TV til it put me to sleep. I saw more fumbles than fans……and blocks thrown by the OLine.

Note how almost all 200 spectators crowd into the rows sheltered under the upper deck.

Hate to point this out again, but we really should halt the series with them . They are much closer to georgia southern and georgia state than to uga. Were it not for the ridiculous acc expansion, I am pretty sure they would not be invited along when the big 64 break off into their own league.

They are just not a legit d1 program anymore, and we gain nothing by playing them. They are so irrelevant nationally that we get no credit for beating them, and heaven forbid we lose once a decade to them. Our series with them accomplishes nothing but subsidizing their athletic department every other year and giving them the opportunity to gain a super bowl victory over us every 10 years or so.

I disagree. We need to play them in every sport every year and beat the crap out of them all the time, every year, in every sport. But I am an old dawg. I have hated the yaller jackets a long long time.

We have to keep beating them yearly. Ask Texas how not playing A&M is working out.

Tech is a competent coach away from being competitive. I’d hate to see how good they could be if they had Bobo, Pruitt, Smart etc. as their head coach. Not sure those guys would ever consider coaching at Tech but it would not take a genius to make them competitive considering their location and conference. (Pun not intended.)

Therein lies the problem, Dawgoholic. Coaching. The Techsters choke on the hire–repeatedly. Do you think for one minute that if Tech had hired a Nick Saban or an Urban Meyer they would be in the situation they are in now? I’m old enough to remember when Tech was really good, but that was when they had Bobby Dodd as their HC. If you look at the last 48 years (Dodd left after the ’66 season) and the series of misfits they have hired it is astounding that they even have a football team left. The only 2 competent HCs Tech had in the last 48 years were Bobby Ross (who led Tech to a share of the MNC in ’90–then dropped Tech like a hot rock for the NFL) and George O’Leary. When the ND debacle happened Tech should have taken O’Leary back but they were to prideful to do so. The fundamental mistake is the Techsters make the decision to hire based on factors other that winning football games. “He’s got to be a TECH man.” (Whatever that means). For thinking that they are so smart they certainly act stupidly.

    • No way should we halt the series with them. They should be the ones to end the series by waving a white flag from The Hill after we make 6:09 look like we scraped by, and we shouldn’t agree until we have won “NIAR, B!” and ended their bragging about The Drought.

Joe, I agree with the Senator, Red Cup and eethomas. Let’s continue to beat the hell out of them.
I disagree with another of your points. Tech is relevant nationally but only for one reason. It is located in Atlanta. When reorganization occurs some conference is going to want a presence in Atlanta and in Georgia. Tech is like Rutgers in that regard.

I’d also like to point out that some of the same people who whine about sometimes playing a weak out of conference schedule are some of the same ones who want to keep playing Georgia Tech every year.

Gotta turn on the mockery machine for this …

If you want to play your Spring Game on Good Friday night in crappy weather in front of a smaller crowd than the Georgia Equestrian Team draws, you’re at Georgia Tech! You can do that!

Consider that crowd included high schooler players and families on a recruiting visit and Tech players ‘ and coaches ‘ families the actual folks who chose to watch as fans must be really low in number.

By now the Tech AA ought to have figured out that having Fish Fry as the HC is destroying whatever football program they had left. Economically they probably can’t fire him and eat the cost as they are still paying off their previously-fired failed basketball coach. Tech is really in a bad spot. 🙂

The bottom line at Tech is the school has had bad ADs. The only good AD Tech has had in 48 years was Homer Rice, who made the Bobby Ross and George O’Leary hires for football and the Bobby Cremins hire for basketball. Since he retired in 1997 there has been a series of horrible ADs at Tech. That really is why Tech consistently loses money and never wins anymore. And the constant contract buyout clause foul-ups…..Wow!
