More as a shot towards his team’s fan base than the kid, Paul Johnson refers to the now-departed Vad Lee as “an Internet legend before he ever played a game”.

“We remember the Sugar Bowl, I think it my junior year of high school, we let Alabama beat us twice,” Brinson said of a team that also lost to the Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. “We’re not letting Alabama beat us twice. In the Sugar Bowl in 2018, they… thought they should have been in the playoffs and lost to Texas.” -- AB-H, 12/27/23
“I’ve been here going on seven years. My family lives here,” said Johnson, 56. “I’ve had several opportunities to leave here in the last seven years.”
But those opportunities for Paul, who is familiar with all the rules of the internet, never blossomed because of the other Paul’s Hewitt Effect on the deficit for which we are eternally grateful.

What a warm, fuzzy human being. Long may he stay at Tech.

It’s the internet’s fault! Maybe he should’ve said how much Lee sucked when he announced he was starter at QB. It does seem just a bit mean spirited to say it now. Of course, Lee’s gone and isn’t there to defend himself by whipping fishfry’s a$$.

Never has an institution been more deserving of a guy like that.

Tech and Johnson deserve each other. A match made in heaven–for Georgia. Long may he stay!

Happy for Vad Lee. Escaping the Genius’ triple option was the best decision he could make.
Vad looked like a competent quarterback against Grantham’s defense. (Faint praise, I know.)
With a decent QB coach, he can have success.

Oh My God…I think I may agree with Paul TheJohnson about something.
(Quick, find the Zantac)
When “internet sensations” live up their hype, there is no problem, when they don’t they wind up at James Madison.
Todd Gurley was labled a superstar, and he is, partly because he went to the right school. Vad Lee was similarly labled and he went to the wrong school for some reason.
Of course, one would ask TheJohnson why, when Lee was obviously NOT a triple option quarterback, why he recruited him in the first place, but asking that might violate our new spirit of understanding.

I’d like JMU’s chances against tech if they played this year

I agree with the Johnson. They have been consistent. And I like that. Long may it last.
