When you start a slideshow of five SEC coaches on the hot seat with a guy who got a raise and contract extension less than a month ago and go to Mark Richt next… well, don’t ever change, Bleacher Report.

The article says Richt COULD be on the hot seat in 2015 IF 2014 does not go well. I don’t see that as being unreasonable. Potentially 3 straight years of subpar football seasons(2013, 2014?, 2015?) equal job security? I can certainly picture fans becoming disgruntled by the start of the ’15 season if things play out this way. I don’t necessarily foresee this scenario, but it is not too far of a stretch either.

C’mon. Any coach in the country COULD be on the hot seat, given the right scenario.

Exactly the point. Was Muschamp on the hot seat after 2012? Of course not. But a 4-8 season tends to warm the seat up a bit, even if the previous year was 11-2.

Last season was a statistical outlier and unlikely to happen again anytime soon. Even still, in the nation’s best conference with several of the nation’s best coaches, Richt has taken teams to the SEC championship game 5 times in 13 years, with 2 SEC titles. Vince Dooley was into his 17th season before winning the NC in 1980. The truth is that this whole “hot seat” business means slightly less than jackshit.

Bleacher Report did exactly what they intended to do with this article. They got hits to their website. Nothing causes southern football fans to rise up like someone saying their coach is on the hot seat even if they boo him like a dog their own selves!
