I have really been disappointed in Shaw. He was one of the very few competent officials. I had hoped he would be a no nonsense administrator but now I think he is just another in a long line of company men who only believe in the old “CYA” theory of management.
Until the SEC makes the review of officials transparent we can expect the same old screw ups by the same old screw-ups. Penn Wagers should have been fired years ago, he clearly has an agenda every time he officiates a UGA game. Mark Curles should never officiate another UGA game as he has a built in bias since he is a GT alum. Let’s see how Foley at UF would like having an FSU or Miami Official handling a UF SEC game. Simple logic is missing from the SEC.

Sure, and the fumble at Tech got that game into OT which was way more exciting and Colorado enjoyed their fifth down enough to win a National Championship, which was very exciting for them.

I only wish the rule had been changed the week before the Vanderbilt game. The targeting call (overturned) and subsequent penalty (by rule not overturned) on Ramik’s clean blast cost us the ballgame. Yeah, Shaw, it did kill THAT game for Georgia.

Cannon, while we are agree about the crappy targeting rule, you could not be more wrong about the Vandy game. An aweful defense, dreadful ST’s, poor offense, a lackluster coaching staff, and an overall team malaise cost the Dawgs the Vandy game. Essentially, Mizzou beat the Dawgs twice (the team lost to the Tigers the week prior and all of their goals were shot). The officials and their targeting calls did not cost the Dawgs that game.

We’ll disagree on this one, Skeptic. We had a stop that would have put the ball back into Murray’s hands. While I agree the game was sloppily played on our part, we still had a chance with the ball in #11’s hands in spite of it all. The call (and the rule, at the time) prevented that. Vandy keeps the ball; we lose.

As well as Murray played last season, he was just as awful vs Vandy. He only threw for 114 yards, zero TD’s and one INT. He averaged 4.1 yards a completion. Murray was not the sole reason they lost that day, I honestly believe they would have lost to anyone following Mizzou, but he certainly did not help.

That targeting call was the difference in a game we should have won easily. We messed around for the reasons discussed but likely would have won anyway. The rule stinks no matter how it was enforced.

Bingo. Skeptic is conflating two separate issues.
Cannon is making the point that, even though UGA played poorly, they still would have won if the officiating had merely been typically poor – rather than epically horrible. He’s right.
Skeptic wants to argue that UGA should have beaten Vandy despite the horse shit officiating. He’s right, too, but that wasn’t Cannon’s point.

Vandy’s 4th down pass was incomplete. We would have had the ball up two scores with what, 9 minutes left. I like our chances up two scores with the ball despite the lackluster performance. It cost us the game.

Yes, while there were many things we could have done better that day, you have to be brain dead to not see that one play/missed call changed the W to an L. Guy just loves to trash the program, and his position on this proves it.

Agree with Cannon. That call absolutely stole the game from us. With that stop, all momentum and life was gone from Vandy and we close it out. Instead, they get new life and enthusiasm and complete the comeback.
