I don’t know how much between the lines reading you want to take from this, vis–à–vis Daryl Jones’ departure, but it looks like his replacement’s primary responsibility will be implementing Bryan McClendon’s game plan for recruiting.
The job description (VIEW IT HERE) reads as, “The Director of Player Personnel is responsible for the organization of the recruiting department and its day to day functions. They will work to support the vision of the Football Recruiting Coordinator (who is now Bryan McClendon).”
Reads like a drop down in the chain of command to me. This, as well: “If you’re looking for a comparison, Alabama under Nick Saban has referred to the daily head of its recruiting support staff — see here — as the Director of Player Personnel.”
It also reads like a big vote of confidence in McClendon. Deservedly so. I can remember when a lot of people were knocking Richt for that hire, too.
Get The Picture 
I’ll say this for Richt.. he develops coaching talent in much the same way he develops talent on the field, and he has quite a bit of success, I think. Gives them a little latitude.. puts some positive attitude and faith toward the guys and lets them grow. As a manager myself, I admire that.

Really? I thought his first defensive staff was pretty good. And it’s not like VanGorder was a household name when Richt hired him.

True. VanGorder was stuck at the small-time college level when Richt hired him. IIRC, BVG’s patsy team had played Florida State, at least once, and Richt had been very impressed with BVG’s defense and preparation.
Georgia was his big break, without a doubt.

Well, I did say with ‘quite a bit’ of success. Besides, you could argue that Grantham himself benefitted from being under Richt’s tutelage.

Gotta admit I was on the leery side about the McClendon hire. I was one of those “Why do we have a former RB coaching our WR’s and a former WR coaching our RB’s?” people. It’s worked out all the way around though with Ball and BMac, both are excellent, excellent coaches.
If/when Bobo ever decides to leave, I wonder if McClendon will be next in line as the OC/playcaller? Isn’t he the one always sitting right beside Bobo in the booth? He would seem to have a good feel by now for how to call the games. I don’t think I’d want to see him trying to be both the recruiting coordinator and the OC though.

McClendon is on the side line. I believe it is Tony Ball who is next to Bobo in the booth. During the last round of raises, Right said that he thought Ball would eventually be an OC. I have not heard him say that about McClendon, Friend, or Lilly.

Any football guy worth his salt can coach RB’s.
WR is another thing. But Ball had either been a WR or had quite a bit of experience coaching them, I believe the latter. You wonder now whether Richt had Ball as WR coach in mind when he hired him, as Eason wasn’t getting it done.
Ball has certainly turned our WR corps around. He deserves great credit, IMO.

There’d be no dissent from me. I quit worrying about WR’s after his first year. And they had been a constant source of concern.

McClendon obviously has a handle on the recruiting piece and if he is getting a little more help all the better. UGA has the top recruiters in the country right now and they have a great product to sell.
UGA could end up with 3 of the top 10 players in the country in the next class.

Very exciting, what’s happening in recruiting. It needed an overhaul. Should be fun watching it play out.

Agree. Recruiting had become stale under Garner. This is exciting stuff, and a key part of getting everything back on track to where we want to go.
