Georgia Tech’s immaculate sense of timing

Mark Emmert is getting hammered today on the use of players’ images in ads.

This isn’t helping.

Tech sent that out yesterday.  Pure Keystone Cops.

If you want to screw over the NCAA, you’re at Georgia Tech; YOU CAN DO THAT!

Considering how poorly Georgia Tech is selling these days, this may actually be Exhibit A for the defense.

If those are current student athletes that is a violation of NCAA rules…

@Mark_Schlabach Those could be random guys off the street, nobody knows anybody that plays for GT unless they are related.

  6. Looks like the players are wearing the retro 1960’s Kim King/Lenny Snow unis. Are the NATs wearing those this year?

Bringing back the Tech’s unis from the 60s can’t hurt. They could draw a decent crowd back then. Now on any given football Saturday there are more people in the concession lines at Sanford Stadium than there are in the stands at Grant Field. Keep playing the Budweiser song and fight on, Jackets.

Yes. They are going back to the old unis this year.

  7. That can’t be all of them, can it? Where are the branded cards for Linux, Chee-tos, Mountain Dew Red, Clearasil and Fleshlight?

I am amazed by the quality of legal research by the plaintiff’s. Imagine the hours that must have been invested in order to find anything related to GT.

Your honor, here is proof that using player’s likeness will not result in any additional revenue to the school. The Defense rests!

I was in ATL several years back for a huge business training seminar. The training lasted through the weekend and I was tasked to come up with a “social” event on Saturday for a large group of folks. It was in the Fall, so that ruled out Six Flags or a water park, so I made some calls and found out that GT was playing a home game that day. Keep in mind that I was planning an event for over 300 people, so I was unsure if I’d be able to find anything that would suit such a large group.

Anyway, I called the GT ticket office and inquired about the availability of tickets for 300+. The conversation went something like this…

GT – “Ga Tech ticket office, how may I help you?”
Me – “Hi, I’m looking for an event for around 300 people and was wondering if you had any tickets available for tomorrow’s game vs Miami. I know it’s late notice, but do you have that many seats left?”
GT – (without hesitation) “Well, yes, we have that many tickets available for the Miami game”
Me – “Great! Don’t worry about putting us together. We can sit wherever you have available, just would like to get everybody in to see the game.”
GT – “Sir, you’re in luck! I have a section open with plenty of seating for your entire group to sit together!”
Me – “Unbelievable! That’s awesome!!! I can’t believe I was able to get those on such short notice!
GT – “No problem sir, glad we could help!”
Me – “By the way, what time does the game start?”
GT – “Well, what time can y’all be here?”

    🙂

Question: If Emmert says there are no rules against it, why is this a bad thing by GT? Take your time and all don’t jump on this June Bug at once.

Hint: It depends on how you read Emmert’s reply.

This is kind of off topic, but y’all will appreciate it – I have a client who owns hotels in Atlanta within walking distance of the Tech campus. I write their newsletter articles and they wanted to plug Tech’s upcoming football season and how close they are to Bobby Dodd, blah blah. I am struggling SO hard trying to make this article appealing. “looking to bounce back after a 7-6 season”….”exciting triple option offense”….”exciting ACC home slate”….I am literally laughing writing this article. There are zero nice things I can say about this team, and it’s not just because I am a dawg. I would hate to be their beat writer.

“Exciting triple option offense”, so there are no ethics standards in marketing promotions any more.?

It is an exciting offense. When they run a play, any one of three things can happen, they make a gain, they get tackled in the backfield, they turn the ball over. You never know. And I left out their tendency to go for it on fourth and long. You’ve got to admit that’s exciting.

But….but….but there are no rules governing the use of their player in ads. Paul agrees with Emmert.

Wait! ….wait..please..this is No Rules American College Football, just like No Rules Aussy Football. Emmert just said so! We don’t have any rules that keep us from taking advantage all we want to!
