It appears that the new head of in-house recruiting for Georgia’s football program will have a new assistant on board as well.
UGA human resources this week put up an official job posting for an new “associate director of player personnel.” The job summary is as follows: “Responsible for assisting the Head Coach and the Director of Player Personnel with all matters related to football recruiting, including but not limited to, preparing film, conducting research, managing recruiting board, camps/clinics, creating databases/spreadsheets, official and unofficial visits, managing hourly/student workers, providing support for coaching staff, and high school coaches relations.”
I never expected Sabanesque levels of minions scurrying about doing Richt’s bidding, but this is a welcome development. It seems to take a village to raise a recruiting class in the SEC these days. Kudos to McGarity for accepting the financial realities of that.

I agree – Morehead is a Dawg through and through. I believe he went to McGarity and Richt and asked what do you need to be most successful. I imagine he would love to have a national championship trophy in the case during his tenure.

imho. Adams started grooming his replacement a while ago. Morehead is Adams boy and he would have McGarity in his office in his underpants if he didn’t do exactly as he was told.
Morehead joined UGA’s Terry College of Business faculty in 1986. Adams tapped Morehead to succeed Arnett Mace as UGA provost and senior vice president for academic affairs in 2009.

AHD, that may be true, but Morehead is a Georgia man, first and foremost. He may carry on with Adams’ policies, but IMO the guy bleeds red and black.

It’s not unthinkable is it? Adams wanted to restrict spending as much as possible. Could this not be Morehead micromanaging as much as letting Crumley/McGarity/etc know he doesn’t need to see as large a number in the black?

They pass budgets, they do. In fact, they’ve already passed the budget for 2015. 2014 budget was passed last year.
So are you saying Morehead just instructed McGarity to ignore that and spend more?

No, I’m saying I can see Morehead authorizing higher budgets than Adams did and these new hirings are within those increased budgets he is allowing. Correct me if I’m wrong on the numbers and Adams/Morehead budgetary allowances aren’t as different as I’m assuming.

A look at this USA Today chart shows Georgia’s athletic expenses go up annually. Morehead’s no different than Adams in that regard.
Besides, the way Mayor’s comment read – the one I responded to – he was making it sound as if Morehead had direct input into the decision to make this staff addition. Color me skeptical about that.

Alright I guess I’m old and jaded. I’m guessing there is somebody that they want to make room for on the payroll. We shall see if the hire comes from the outside or if it’s somebody already at B-M working as a GA or similar.

I don’t think I have quite as pessimistic a view of it, but I do wonder if there was maybe a 2nd candidate that had really impressed them during the interview process, and they decided it was worth making a spot for that person.

I have no idea whose idea any of this was, but it is hard to ignore all the changes that have occurred since Pruitt set foot on campus. Whether someone high up the chain is responsible or whether Pruitt (somehow) has managed to acquire this much influence this quickly, consider me a fan.

I had kinda the same thought. It’s hard to imagine that Pruitt, as an assistant coach, has the authority/influence to get things done like getting budgets approved to create new staff positions. I just don’t think that’s in his realm of influence, at least not directly. But as you said, there’s no denying the amount of changes that didn’t happen until he showed up. So maybe he has more influence than I think. 🙂

“You cannot win … if you do not play.” I seriously doubt that McGarity or Morehead had an epiphany and are in gear to maximize our potential and compete with the semi-pro coaches in our conference. In any event we are heading down a good road.

We may never know, Aus. Did Richt have something to do with Grantham leaving? Was he going to make structural changes anyway, before Pruitt came on the scene? Too many questions, lot of possibilities. We just don’t know.
But Richt deserves credit, nevertheless, IMO. At the very least, he deserves credit for seeing a way to improve the structural foundation of his program and being willing to make all sorts of changes. And we know Richt is generally slow to change. But he saw what he thought would be a better way, and he was willing to go with it – apparently hook, line, and sinker.
That, we know. He may have been much more involved in the impetus than that. We just don’t know, and IMO won’t unless he someday speaks about it.

You can read in the comments section why I’m skeptical DeVoursney would be hired, but Carvell thought enough to mention him in print at the time, so maybe there’s something there. (To be clear, I haven’t seen DeVoursney mentioned for this new position anywhere, just throwing his name out there as somebody they might consider). He has a lot of high school contacts, for sure. And some info has come out since then that doesn’t exactly absolve him of the allegations, but creates more room for doubt as to whether he and his wife actually did anything wrong.
