BMW makes them. Volkswagen makes Bently. Bently outsells RR. Jeep and Dodge Viper are the only cars I know of still being made in Detroit. 65% American made. But at least GM and the Volt survived. Canada bought 200 Volts in 2012 and China bought 12. We own a Prius, Ford 150, and Honda. CMR drives a Ford. 😉

Other than my Jeep Wrangler, I haven’t bought an American made car since the 80s but if I were to do so, if would definitely be a Ford product. Have to respect the way they manned up and went their own way.

You have to go back to the early 70s for me due to quality assurrance programs in Japanese production that was first offered to and rejected by Detroit. Had the Pontiac “Cadillac” in the 70s. Saw the tv ad for Writh and thought it looked ugly plus high pricetag because no range was given. They were advertising it’s speed w/o saying how fast it goes. Anyone?.

It’s nice to see you drop by and say hello. Very pleased to know your career is so successful, hopefully it will inspire some guys on the team to take the game up a notch.
Too bad you didn’t win an SEC title while in Athens, that would have been a nice exclamation point to your Bulldog career. But given the fact that the team’s defense severely underperformed (aside from 2007), I can see why, even if we did have arguably our best “on paper” team in 2008 — at least many that follow this game closely thought so.
So with all that said, thanks again but please do us a favor. Get a haircut, dress like a professional, and for the love of God if you must ear a cap please turn so the bill faces in the right direction.

I think his goals were much different than yours and most other students. And while he’s always represented the school well and it’s awesome that he came back to visit, I don’t think it’s professional to wear your cap backwards (something he has always done) and dress slovenly.
That’s just my opinion, of course. If it were possible to combine Stafford’s talents and Murray’s heart then you would have all-world.

I was thinking the same thing just didn’t want to ruffle anyone’s feelings. I had an uncle that owned an older one. Wasn’t a real collectors item or real expensive. Just something he happened upon at RAFB-somebody transferred and let it go. We use to borrow it and motor on up to Pawley Island. Stayed at a place called the Grey House. Cheap and on the beach and they served breakfast. Bought shrimp from the local shrimp stands and grilled on the veranda. Deep sea fishing was great and always managed red snapper and a few 8 lb groupers. Slept in a hammock and read Travis McGee . Recharged the batteries. Simpler days.

Thought he was aiming at my wife’s chickens. Had to be away a couple of days trying to move things (deep vein thrombosis and lung embolism) while her chickens rested up. When the hospital and I parted ways and I was back birdwatching on the screen porch, a large rooster flew to a perch just outside, looked hard at me and cookle-doodle-dooed. I chuckled until later found a favorite plant gobbled to the ground. Had him lined up with the 410 until the wife stopped me and said a worm did it (with a straight face). Does anyone doubt she should be on staff at B-M as go-between for Jimmy and the players?

And that is the point, even if they owe money at least they didn’t steal anything. You can spin anything I guess….or try. If Ford could get rid of the union they could make a car as well, or better, than they do in Japan. And the workers would be allowed to vote for America again.

That wasn’t part of a bailout…..Ford wasn’t on the verge of bankruptcy at the time. The government offered lows interest loans to help auto manufacturers meet new fuel-efficiency standards that was put in place. The money was to help manufacturers develop fuel-efficient vehicles. I’m pretty sure a loan has to be paid back on the lender’s terms, while a bailout is paid back on the debtor’s terms.
Not that it matters, Ford is still chained to GM and Chrysler,Ford had a 70% supplier overlap and 30% dealer overlap w/ GM and Chrysler so they would have been dead in the water if those two failed. Also, Ford had just borrowed ~$20B to finance a massive restructuring plan a year or so before. Restructuring was scaled back and Ford used most of the money to weather the downturn. And there were all those pensions to fund.
On another note my brother in law works for a company that makes transformers and switches for huge power grids. He travels back and forth to Germany. At my youngest son’s graduation he said that Germany was cutting back on it’s nuclear power and….. returning to coal.

Dude…Ford borrowed the $23.4 billion from BANKS. Not from the government. So there’s really no comparison whatsoever between that and a bailout. And, like you said, they got the $23.4 billion because they were willing to do what it took to get it. And they had the foresight to know they would need it, which is more than can be said for the other two. Ford borrowed those billions “when capital markets were thriving.” What you seem to see as a knock against Ford, some would see as a wise business decision.
But I don’t think anyone here is arguing that Ford is a paragon of corporate virtue. They’re basically the best-run of three poorly-run companies. BUT they didn’t take bailout money, and taking bailout money is what people have issue with. They did take out a much smaller government LOAN, and are repaying it WITH INTEREST. In other words, they may not be great, but at least they didn’t run their company completely into the ground and then expect taxpayers to cover their sorry ass. Plus there’s this, from your Forbes article: “GM: repaid $23.1 billion of the $49.5 billion it got from the U.S. Treasury, including all of its outstanding loans.” How does that amount to being paid up? Beats me.

Even as much as you wish it to be true, bankruptcy proceedings even in Red States is not considered stealing. Those proceedings are however been a great way to hammer unions such as in Chrysler and GM and have been since Eastern Airlines in Miami so that should certainly be the silver lining for you and take away some of the sting of not yet having debtors’ prisons
