Going on the disabled list

It’s got nothing to do with the pinched nerve I mentioned last week, but I’m going in the hospital today for a surgical procedure.  I’ll probably have about a three-day stay there after which I’ll be sent home to recuperate, which should take about as long as I need to ditch the pain medication.  Obviously, I can’t say you’ll see much blogging production out of me for the next week or so, but I shall return.

Hey, it could be worse.  The surgery was originally scheduled for August 26th. And like weddings, you just don’t schedule major surgery in the fall in the South.  I will be at the opener, by Gawd.

  13. Last time I was in the hospital for three days I drew a male nurse. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Even though I was in ICU there are just some things I had to do for myself. ;-). Get well soon and hope you draw a good looking, professional female nurse to ease you stay.

      • Dammit DIF I did not “Draw” a picture! I drew the short stick. Instead of a healthy female nurse, I was assigned someone with a beard. Which meant that as long as I could reach for my clicker or my John Henry I was fine and would be handling my own sponges one on one. I felt as if my promotion to ICU deserved a different status… as I was the only one that was awake or not on a ventilator. None the less apparently I was “frocked” and my promotion devoid of the benefits of a raise. I can’t prove it but… some of the personal talked like they were from outta state.Just sayin’

Someone here doesn’t have any sense of humor. This was known to me in the 70s and was written specifically for “The Pill” researchers. I worked for a company that made birth control pills and birth control devices. PhDs in Pharmaceutical Science raved at this humor. I couldn’t remember the reference, so I Googled it. Have no idea why the original article didn’t pop up.

Unbelievable. We have crossed paths. I first read it at the same time and in the exact same setting (same industry, same “The Pill” company and given to me by the same PhDs with a sense of humor). Chicago?

Their hospital looks like a Mayo Clinic when compared to Belize. In Belize City the sidewalk/walkup slabs individually look like an earthquake rearranged each one. The two stories are characterized by laundry lines on each balcony with long lines of laundry hanging across the courtyard below. I was told locally that ,when anyone got admitted, patients then became squatters and began living there. The U.S. Embassy is shuttered and with iron bars on all window and door openings. A long gray ghetto is across the street from both.

If you get sick there, get flown out. To Ferkessedougou.

                Feeling any better now, Senator?

just make sure Nick re-routes his delivery so as not to travel through Reynolds. When I heard he’d been stopped, my first thought was “I wonder if Nick was jake braking?”

      Like

      • Dog in Fla

Are manual transmissions available for Dodge Chargers? I only thought they came with the ‘legendary’ Mopar TorqueFlite ™ automatics (if a Chrysler automatic can be legendary) but maybe even the downshift of that is capable of jake braking but if so, he certainly would have got a stern talking to

“The Reynolds, Georgia police chief says he had a stern talk with Marshall.

“I explained to Nick that I was really disappointed in him,” Chief Lonnie Holder told WRBL News 3. “I told him that there are a million kids that look up to him. He is a role model whether he wants to be or not. I was disappointed that we have athletes out there doing that. I explained to him that we are not going to treat him any differently. I was disappointed in him. I hope he learns from his mistake and this puts him on the right path.”

Holder says Marshall was very somber in his reply.

“He was very regretful,” Holder explained. “He was very respectful. He was very apologetic. He seemed like he was disappointed in himself. He did get a little teary eyed as we had the conversation. I think sometimes what those kids need, they need somebody to talk to them and say, hey, you made a mistake, don’t let it happen anymore.”

I had a dream too. I dreamed I was as light as the ether- a drifting floating spirit visiting things to come. The shades and shadows of the people in my life wrestled their way their way into my slumber. I dreamed that O’Bannon had voluntarily dismissed his complaint. And then I dreamed on, into the future, to a Christmas morn in Arizona watching Hudson’s progress from afar, taking pride in his accomplishments as if he were our own. Wondering if he ever thought of us and hoping that maybe we’d broadened his horizons a little even if he couldn’t remember just how they got broadened or why there were so many little kids around and how did they get over that wall. And it seemed real. It seemed like, well, a Kool-Aide infused sugar-high dream. If not Arizona, then a land not too far away. Where all fans are strong and wise and capable and all players are happy and beloved. I don’t know. Maybe it was Utah.
