Big Game Bob seems to have gotten his panties in a wad because Nick Saban didn’t treat Oklahoma’s bowl win over Alabama as being as big a deal as Stoops wants everyone to think it is.
That “consolation game” quote really stuck in Stoops’ craw.
The thing is, as Kevin Scarbinsky rather hilariously points out, contractually speaking, it really was a consolation game for Saban.

Actually I think Big Game Bob is right here. Alabama “conveniently” has an excuse every time they get their ass kicked. They are whiny terrible losers. After all weren’t the fans to blame for their ass kicking by Utah? And now they lost another game in which they were heavily favored and they weren’t up for it. Garbage and classless to boot.
What ever happened to tipping your hat and giving your opponent his dues for outcoaching and outplaying your team? Richt and company could have moaned about being in the Sugar Bowl after the 07 season but they took it as an opportunity.
Bama has a great tradition and are clearly the class of the South historically. But they also have been blessed with enormous luck in winning some of those titles (64, 65, 73 and especially 2011). They really need to act like a champion.

Everyone knows that most Alabama fans are delusional and obnoxious. But, it took me awhile to recognize one of the scariest illustrations of their delusion: they have a selective memory when it comes to losses and bad seasons. Here’s one example:
Alabama fan: “When are y’all going to fire Richt?”
Me: “Why would we fire Richt when he has a better record against your most hated rival than y’all do?”
Alabama fan: “Well that includes the Shula years. Thems don’t count.”
Me: “You know he’s also 3-2 against y’all, right?”
Alabama fan: “Well, that includes the Shula years, too. Thems don’t count.”
Me: “Do y’all count that 2007 game where we beat you in Tuscaloosa.”
Alabama fan: “Nuh, man. That team lost to Louisiana Monroe.”
Me: “Wasn’t Saban the coach of that team, too?”
Alabama fan: “YEAH MAN BUT HE WAS PLAYING WITH SHULA’S PLAYERS!!!”
Florida fans are kind of like Pol Pot – time (year zero) actually began in the early 1990s. Alabama fans are more like The Adjustment Bureau.
But, if all my school had going for it was a law school and a football team, I’d be awfully persnickety about football, too.

I can agree with Stoops to a point. He had been on a bit of a slide and now seems to have regained some momentum. They won – fair and square – and no one wants to hear a whiny loser.
On the other hand, Saban is primarily talking to a different fan base and we have to fill the off season filling in the blanks on what went wrong.
Stoops and Saban are supposed to be friends so I don’t think it’s a big deal.
