Mike Bobo racked himself up some major frequent flyer miles recruiting recent QB commit Jacob Eason.
“They’ve always been the school,” Eason said. “The coaches have been the most involved. Coach Bobo came all the way up to Washington to watch me throw twice. That’s more than any other school and that’s a four-and-a-half-hour flight. That’s a lot of commitment.”
I guess Eason felt the love.

Bobo seems to be just killing it. I watched the LSU game from last year on ESPNU this morning. It’s odd how we take for granted all these games where we’re racking up 30 and 40 points against top 10 teams.

Interestingly, I think Mike might turn into the best head coach we’ve ever had. He has a relentlessness on the recruiting trail like Miles and Saban that will serve him well when he’s the head guy. Moreover, he’s got a little more of an edge to him than Richt or Dooley, but I think he’s learned from both over the years about demeanor. It’ll be fun to watch one day.

I will respectfully, completely disagree. Great recruiter. Great QB coach. But its a big difference than being a head coach. In the SEC. I could be wrong but I don’t see it. Handling the Big Picture is much different than just a coordinator, and one who has not coached in many systems under many coaches and networked at a high level. Richt’s lack of networking really hurt him with Willie and Grantham. Much better qualified people out there but how would he know?? Two bad hires. Hasn’t won the SEC in 9 years as a result. Recruiting will only get you so far. I see Bobo in the Muschamp corner, just not an elite HC prospect. But I could be wrong.

Last night I was reading through the media guide before bed and it struck me just how many career, season, and game records Aaron Murray holds.
Just about every passing category has 3 or 4 of murray’s seasons in the top 5. I am sure that Bobo had an impact on that.
Obviously the game has gone more pass happy, but QBs have been the best ever under Bobo.

Eason’s decision seems balanced between “the love” and a stable system that has done an excellent job developing QBs for over a decade. It doesn’t hurt that UGA is in the SEC and located in Athens. Really like what I have seen/heard of him. My biggest fear is his ability as a baseball player, he is reportedly good enough to go high in the draft. How high he actually goes could determine if he plays CFB at all. Not that I blame him if he does choose baseball but his commitment will put us behind with all other top QBs. I don’t see how we could recover if he were to not show up that summer.

Eh, that get’s over played. Third and long backed up in your own territory. I’m ok running a draw and punting when you likely don’t convert. Live to play another series instead of throwing it and having something worse happen. Especially in the first 3 quarters of the game. We’ve been spoiled watching Murray throw darts all over the field and completing so many passes. Punting isn’t always a bad thing.

I repeat: Bobo has built one helluva O Machine, capable at any time to take down the highest and mightiest.
Any power team we play will be reduced to a 50-50 chance, no matter the underdog points we are ceded. The replacement parts get shinier and shinier each season. He has created the 3-headed monster of RB U, TE U and QB U at UGA.
His legacy will grow even more under his recruiting and tutorage now that he has listened to the playcallers on here. Richt, of course, had nothing to do with it.

I was thinking along the same lines when I read the story. It’s not just a 4 1/2 hour plane ride. When you get on an airplane to go out west, it is at least two days ripped out of your schedule to see this one recruit. And he’s done it twice already.
It makes me think of how many other prospects Bobo has burned 4 travel days to see. Prospects we never hear from again.
It’s a tough job, and considering the job insecurity, well worth the pay. Good job Coach Mike Bobo.
