If you’ll recall, Joe Alleva seemed mighty pleased at how inhospitable the last expansion of Tiger Stadium would make the place for visiting fans.
It looks like his master plan is working. A month before the start of the 2o14 season, six of seven visiting teams – Sam Houston State, Louisiana-Monroe, Mississippi State, New Mexico State, Kentucky and Ole Miss – all returned tickets to LSU.
He’s a regular marketing genius, alright. The sad thing is that he’s one of the people whose job it is to figure out how to keep attracting fans to attend games.

I have little doubt those tickets will be quickly snatched up by possum eaters.

And how does he now spin it that while yes Bama fans are going to need a telescope, LSU fans who buy these tickets are going to need them as well.

Anybody who expands their stadium these days is a fool and is doing it strictly in an attempt to show who has the biggest dick. Poorer home schdules + more expensive tickets to sit in absolutely horrible seats does not add up.
Even mighty Bama is going to have trouble filling their stadium to the gills for at least half if their home games because they expanded when it was not necessary.

Agreed. You can optimize the sport/experience for TV or you can do it for the fans who are the actual game. You can’t have it both ways.

I don’t disagree with you, but Alabama does have a waiting list for season tickets.
I’m a big fan and all that, but my brother-in-law and I will probably fight to see who has to go to the FAU game.

UTK once had a waiting list as well. Today they can’t even sell out big games anymore. And chances are, teams are more likely to be where the Vols are than Bama.

I’m telling you…individual seats w/ chairbacks and cup holders, like the NFL. It will decrease capacity and create a better experience for fans. No more drunk guy scooting into your seat. Plus, it would just look cooler. Could have a red section and black section.

if they cut down the seats to 75k they would be out $775k.
I am estimating that a current “seat” is 18″ and a chair seat is 22″ and that there are 92k seats.
So each ticket would need to be about $10 more to make up the difference or about $60-70 per ticket per season.
I would gladly pay $100 more each season for each ticket to have an actual seat with a cup holder.

I toured Ford Field in Detroit recently. The seats there are made from the car seats they use in minivans and SUVs. It was pretty fantastic.

I agree with Guilbeau on the neutral site games in ATL, Dallas, Houston, etc. I don’t see how it helps recruiting that much.

92-94,000 (Depending on who’s counting apparently) is enough for Sanford. Extending the 600 level to add more terrible seating would simply lead to more empty seats. Extending the 100 level to enclose the West end would ruin the beautiful view out of that end of the stadium and, again, create more bad seats that would be empty for all but the two big games a season at home.
If ADGM wants to spend some money on Sanford, start with upgrading the bathrooms. Maybe adding a television or even radio in the bathrooms so fans could have some idea of what was going on in the game?

Alleva is an interesting dude, he whines incessantly about having to play Florida as opposed to UGA fans who only whined and hated playing FU while they had the temporary edge. Alleva and all other ADs are misreading the fans lack of interest in watching mismatches. More seats indeed, when LSU doesn’t have a line to get tickets for their home games everyone should start worrying…instead, they fight having a ninth conference game. More than three blind mice in charge of CFB decisions.
