Ah, geez.

Malcolm Mitchell, fragile flower.

UPDATE:  Details.

UPDATE #2:  While we’re on the topic, this doesn’t sound too promising, either.

I am afraid that Mitchell = Sturdivant. Great freshman season and then injury plagued after. Hope that this isn’t serious and he is ready to go by Aug 30.

    • AthensHomerDawg

Sturdivant put more weight on than his knees could structurally handle. I don’t think that is what is happening to Mitchell.

At least last year he got to play one series before going down. Feel bad for the kid. World class talent and piss poor luck. Hope he bounces back.

It’s starting to look like Mitchell has some sort of physiological issue that makes his knee/knees unsuited for playing football. When a 20 year old male athlete can’t come back in a year from an injury with world class rehab and medical care, it’s more than bad luck.

+1000. There’s something bigger going on here. We all need to just assume he will not play for this team ever again, and anything we do get from him will just be gravy. Hopefully Bobo is scheming as such with the rest of our talented WR corps.

Some people just aren’t built for football.

  5. JAX

He’s done, and I say that will remorse.

  6. We/He just can’t catch a break..LEt’s hope the rest of the WR crew stays healthy….Happy Fall Camp though fellas!

Since he has worked so hard to be back, he’s in shape and will stay that way while rehabbing from a less invasive surgery like arthroscopy . He certainly should be able to put enough pressure on it to rehab as quickly as possible. He should be back during the season, maybe in time for the FU game, maybe before.

Is this kneesmash totally new or is there some leftover old injury chips being removed? We need a detailed update. Anyone have an “in” with Courson?

    • I don’t have any inside info, but if it was just cleanup, gotta think that would have been caught and done a long time ago. No reason to think this is anything other than a new injury, probably tore either meniscus or some other cartilage in the knee, that’s usually case with arthroscopic surgery. On it’s own, it is a very minor injury. But compounded on top of everything else, man he has to be frustrated right now.

Thanks for the update details from 247. Looks like we both guessed the same thing from meager details.

  8. Spike

Get well soon! We all want to see you play!

  9. It depends on the injury, and where he was in his recovery. If he was 100%, and the injury is slight, he could be back in a few weeks. Or he could end up gone for the year, if things don’t work out. There’s no way to know with so little information.

Personally, I was never counting on Mitchell, so I’m not all torn up. But I sure hate it for him. Just awful. But this is enough bad news, thank you. It’s been a tough 10 days.

Probably didn’t mess with the preexisting meniscus/cartilage as would have been more invasive at the time of ACL surgery. Cleaning it out now, and a healthy season – he should pass NFL physical at end of year. Best of luck to him, I know what it feels like for that meniscus to wear out.

CMR needs to pray alot for MM’s knees and MM’s overall well being. I will. because this young man just needs to have his life back. Surely there are more important things in life than football or at least that is what they say. But MM finds true joy in his life when the ball drops in his hands on a deep pattern and he breaks away.
Not sure how this will go, but I have strong hope for him to recover and to play.
How snakebite can a player and a team get.

    • Cojones

His play against FU will always keep him in my football heart no matter what else he accomplishes.

Think some of you proficient computer gurus could dig up the play where he split the defenders after a foul and still made the TD?

      • AthensHomerDawg

Lot of people have a torn meniscus and don’t even know it. I’m guessing that Mitchell tore his medial meniscus. I read somewhere that the knee ligament he tore was the MCL. Everyone always refers to a torn ligament as the ACL regardless of which one was actually torn. I have a slight tear in both the medial and lateral meniscus. Our DGD Brad Register is looking after it for me and doesn’t seem concerned. Anyhow he is not wanting to whittle on it. Some might remember him. He tore a rotator cuff his junior year. Had surgery and was expected to play guard his Senior year. But he was accepted to Harvard Medical school and now is an orthopedic surgeon. Good for me huh? He tells some interesting stories about Donnan.

this is possibly premature. hopefully so. IF mitchell has played his last snap for UGA, it would be super unfortunate. he won’t go down in georgia history as one of the great WRs but i will NEVER EVER forget that catch and run TD against UF. i literally hit the fan while jumping up and down.

Hope Mitchell reads this considering all the love and injury concern we feel about him.

  13. Moe Pritchett

one of my fav moments against the Lizards.

  14. W Cobb Dawg

We always hear about how great fu’s DBs are, and even Danielson raves about them in that video – while #26 goes through them like swiss cheese.

Really hope MM can return. He’s fun to watch.

  15. Cosmic Dawg

I watched a video of MM talking to some kids, seems like he’s had his share of ups and downs and I am sick about this. I don’t think these reports are any reason to dramatically claim “he’s played his last down at Georgia.”.

Let’s wish him the best and hope to see him back on the field soon – perhaps they’ll get him fixed up.

  16. Debby Balcer

If anyone has the willpower to get back on the field it is MM. Praying for complete healing and a great season for him.

  17. 69Dawg

Any chance we change the UGA nickname to the Snake Bites. Seems totally appropriate.

    “They called me Mr. Glass!”

(Couldn’t resist, but I wish him the best. He’s had some promising moments.)
