Maybe the worm is turning, at least a little.

A week before the season starts, a Clemson offensive lineman who has played 17 games in the last two seasons, with five starts, announces he’s transferring.  He’s one of the four kids Swinney had suspended for the opener, so it’s not a new loss, but, still, doesn’t that sound like something that would have happened in Athens last season (or even this spring)?

    Also lost their leading rusher, though “leading” wasn’t saying much (~250 yds).

    Clemson has had great success recruiting along the offensive line.

      My Clemson friends say they have very little depth at OL, but a great class is coming in next year.

      Oh, and yes I have friends that went to Clemson. I grew up in ATL and a lot of kids don’t get into Georgia and have to settle for Auburn or Clemson.

        Or they wanted to take Electrical Engineering ( non-existent at UGA 26 years ago and not good now ). UGA is not tops in everything.

        Lucky for me the first two years were 88 and 89. They didn’t play. I hated Ford until I went to Clemson. Clemson had nasty defenses those two years. In 90, I told myself I would pull for Clemson over UGA, but realized the week of the game that I could not. I grew up with UGA season tickets. I was in Athens in 84 when Butler kicked the 61 yarder. UGA is like family. The beating Georgia took in 90 was ugly, but they didn’t lose again until last year. I hope Georgia kills Clemson next weekend. Then I’ll pull for Clemson the rest of the way.

          If that is the case then they couldn’t get into Tech. Why would any prospective E.E. student worth their salt go out of state, especially to schools like Clemson and Auburn, when they could be paying in-state tuition at a school like Tech? So many in state kids can’t get into UGA or Tech, so they have to settle for one of those two schools.

              Hey garage, UGA engineer here (from before your time). Don’t sell the UGA Engineering College short. They’ve done a lot in a short time, plus the degree has served me well these 30+ years.

                Sorry, I was just trying to make the point that Clemson ( can’t speak for Auburn ) does have some majors that are higher rated than UGA. A friend of mine forwarded me the story ~5 years ago about Georgia adding an Electric Engineering program. I was so close to talking with them about teaching. But it has been almost 20 years since I’ve been out of Graduate school. I don’t think I could go back to that. Ahhh, but to live in Athens.

            gatech doesn’t want kids from Georgia as students. Check out that campus if you don’t believe me. The vast majority of students are from out-of-state or out-of-country.

            Southern Polytech is the state school that gets most of GA kids who want to be engineers.

          Glad you decided to stick with being a Georgia fan. It should make for a very happy weekend next week.

          UGA will have an accredited EE program in a few years. I understand the first full-size undergraduate class is only in its sophomore year.

          A large percentage of EE slots at Georgia Tech are occupied by out-of-state students, so Clemson, Auburn, and NC State benefited more from GT’s stonewalling of the state legislature than GT ever did. Now, the state is playing catch-up with its EE, ME, and Civil Engineering programs.

          It will be good to have more afforable options for EE students in the state besides Georgia Tech and Southern Poly.

    I hope it’s time for someone else to have bad luck. It doesn’t have to be Clemson, but it is time for it not to be UGA. If regression to the mean is a real thing, Auburn will need to have the worst luck imaginable this year just to even things out for last year.
