One thing we’re ignoring…

… is an area where Georgia appears to have a huge advantage over Arkansas:  special teams.

F/+ Special Teams

11 (3.9%)

109 (-3.2%)

(Georgia is listed first.)

Think about the biggest impact that can have on a game – field position – and consider how important that’s been to Georgia’s success this season.

No optimism will be tolerated this week.

One thing McGarity is ignoring is the fact that his head coach is constantly having to speak to an issue that he should be addressing with the media himself. He has hung his head coach out to dry.

    We need a real AD.

  3. UGAs punter has been pretty bad the last few weeks. Hopefully that’s fixed by Saturday.

Agree, but coverage has been solid, and our return game is much better. It would be great if the Human Joystick could break one this week.

Hopefully our punting returns to our previous good form.

If the special teams can steal a score or flip the field a couple of times, it will be huge.

I meant to also mention that Alabama’s special teams were bad, especially the return game (stupid fumbles when trying to field a bouncing punt in a crowd). If they are tight there, their game isn’t as close. I think the same will go for us. I like our special teams.

        • Yeah… Bama is still dangerous but I think they’re a shell of their former selves. Real Jekyll and Hyde this year. Just bad ST. Kiffen is their scapegoat and Saban’s throw under he busee but I don’t think he messes with their ST. Kinda sad seeing him throw people under the bus the way he has. I can understand coaches but players? In college? Not cool!

    • Agreed but I don’t mind it so much when we don’t allow a return. I’ll take a 40 yarder with no return. Of course I’d prefer a 50 with no return.

As long as we’re hoping, put me in the “I hope we don’t have to use our punter until we’re up 5 TDs” camp.

I think our short punter, Erickson, has done pretty good, including last week. The guy who’s supposed to have the big leg, Barber, hasn’t improved since hitting campus.

  4. My concern is their OL pushing around UGAs front 7, something SoCar did.

Turns out you have a lot of concerns, right? It must be hell not to see good players who are playing well while recalling everything negative that’s happened over a month and a half ago.

heck, when was the last time special teams weren’t considered special Olympics level?

Not too long ago, maybe three years ago but our fans are as bad as the media at exaggerating our weaknesses.

No, good special teams don’t allow a DT to run 50 yards for a TD on a fake put like SCar did to us in ’11. Plus that was still peak “punt safe, don’t try and return it” years.
I’d say go back at least to 2005. Before that they were great when Boss Bailey and Damien Gary were here.

  7. I’m still not ready to look to special teams for an advantage, but that just may be my inability to shake off recent history. Would love to see the human joystick break one this game.

    Senator – Please stop 😦

I would like to go into this game with the same nihilistic despair that I mustered for the Mizzou game. Why would you try to take that away from me?

Barber is average at best !! I’m not sure if anyone tracks how much time expires between the hike of the ball and the kick, but Barber is slow as mud ! I mean really slow !! Auburn will block a punt guaranteed !

Dayum. Reckon we should let the QB dropkick one?

You boys are out in force today, aren’t you?

True…limp legged. Think he used it too much over the summer. And he’s locking in on where he’s going to kick it rather than going through his reads. We’ve got to get Erickson more punts to be ready for next year…this year is lost anyway.

What has happened to your karmic bitches?

“We believe we are the personality. We feel completely identified with the personality. Or perhaps we hate it.There is not that much difference. But, the personality, in and of itself is the sickness. In a pure mind, without sickness there is no personality. This means that in a pure mind, the thought is only one. If the mind is immersed in the Divine thought, then there is no personality. This means that not any kind of Karma is being created. The Karma is being generated by the thinking process. And the Karma is created simply because the mind is not in concentration. When the mind is focused, every action happens fortuitively.”

Wanna ask the Karmic Bitches to translate that shit before gametime?

  12. I’ve been as hard on him as anyone but this is the week Mason really steps up. You should listen to me since I told you how we’d beat Mizzou. Lol! Even had Chubb down to a T.

We’ll need a bit more passing this week and Mason does just enough deep stuff to keep their D honest. No one offensive standout this Saturday.

This may be JJ, Bennett and Mitchell’s week. Of course that means Hutson has a fine game throwing over the middle to JJ (when he isn’t exploring the seams) and long ones to those WRs.

Here’s hoping Mason and Bobo saw the first half Aubbie had vs. Arky. The Hogs are pretty good at stopping run or pass when they’re sure which one is coming, based off the Bama/TAMU games. But Auburn passed on early downs, and had some big gains. Some good play action bombs may pay off this weekend. Hopefully.

  13. They’ve only made 2 of 4 FGs so that could be a big plus if we can force them to kick them. Or just win the field position battle again. Easy peasy…
