Day late and a calculation short

It’s just Georgia’s luck.  The year the computers are falling all over themselves loving the Dawgs is the year college football is going totally subjective with a selection committee picking the postseason field.

Nah. Fine with me. Keep winning and we’re in. We control our destiny.

Nightmares are more like 2002 & 2007 when things were “truly subjective.”

Handle business the rest of regular season, beat Auburn and win the SEC it will work out the same. Thank God we don’t have to rely on the BCS anymore to determine postseason outcome

This year it wouldnt be relevant. Win out and we’re in the top 4. Lose 1 more & we’re out. If old system was in place this year it would be more relevant actually, as with only 2 spots it would be: win out and hope the BCS percentage points are in our favor, and then we’re in…

Dead on, we control our destiny and no computer or committee will deny us at 12-1….and neither will save us at 11-2 (although there is a slight chance with the SEC but that is more related to how the West plays out.) I think that is fair. I still wouldn’t have us that high in the rankings at this point but we are trending in that direction.

If we somehow go 12-1 and win the SEC I can see FSU, ND, Mich St. and Oregon getting the 4 playoff spots if they all win out. Too many saying Mich St. has the “best loss” to Oregon and ND has second best loss to FSU. Can Louisville beat FSU? I doubt it.

I have always been baffled by many of the computer poll rankings, although it seems the best way to get objective rankings. I just looked at Sagarin’s update from this weekend’s games and he has five consecutive SEC at the top followed by, wait for it, Oklahoma at #6. WTF? Looking down the list further, I see FSU and ND in the mid-teens followed by A&M at #15. Whacky, imo.

I think that VegasInsider always has a better power ranking. Not sure how it is put together but I suspect it is tied into how the public bets with their own money. It hasn’t been updated for this week’s results.

One of the many, to me, wonderful things about 1980 was that nobody cared about computers, dead air was filled with soap operas, the punditry was unchanged, and the Dawgs were a total, out of left field surprise.

Not even Vince could entice the ire of the Kharmic Bitches, and ole Vince, he lay low.

  8. I no longer believe it’s as simple as win out and we’re in. These are still human beings voting and deciding who gets in. Just pay attention to the way they talk up Bammer ‘s win over Arkansas in one breath and talk down our win in another. We don’t play anyone yet they keep showing schedule rankings with ours right there with the mighty west. Right now it’s worse than the BCS ever was. I can’t even wrap my mind around the double standards and hypocrisy.

Not to change the subject, but is anyone getting a tad nervous about the Gurley thing? If we submitted it by Wednesday evening as UGA said they were going to do, it has been a while. Given that they probably aren’t going to work it over a weekend, am I reading too much into it? I just think we would have heard something by now if it was going to remain 2 games.

What benefit to UgA is it to announce this? Make’em wait.

No problem with UGA taking on FU with the same bunch that sunk Mizzou and Ark. Any more angst over the Gurley saga is misspent emotion. It will happen or it won’t. Let’s let FU worry about it.
